Alex Rodriguez’s Hall of Fame future has become a thing to worry about around the New York Yankees’ fanbase. From the 2009 World Series win to the innumerable career awards he has received throughout his time on the diamond more than just justify the nomination. However, a certain shadow from his past has led him to be deprived of that honor time and time again. Will the next year’s outcome be the same as well?

Recent news has revealed the progress of the ballot so far. Much to the fans’ relief, A-Rod has clinched more votes than he has ever received before. His Cooperstown future remains uncertain, though. What does the progress indicate so far?

According to NJ.com, for his third Hall of Fame appearance, Alex Rodriguez has received more than the 34.3% and 35.7% votes he had received in the previous two years. Out of the 91 votes received so far, Al-Rod has secured 41.8% of them for his third Cooperstown appearance.

The deadline is yet to close with a day more to go, so it is fair to say that Rodriguez’s 2024 Hall of Fame future hangs by a thin thread. The increase in his popularity does indicate several factors that might change his future, as he still has six more years to be nominated again and again.

The MLB Hall of Fame requires their nominees to have a minimum of a 5% vote to stay in contention should they fail to clinch a title in their previous appearances. But for A-Rod, the main question is, if he doesn’t get selected once again for the 2024 HOF Class, how likely is it for him to secure one in the future nominations?

Why A-Rod’s popularity in the game doesn’t affect the Cooperstown committee

Cooperstown was once infamous for being ruthless toward the players who went down the dark road of PEDs. Contrary to his contemporaries, Alex Rodriguez is probably the most open player to talk about his past usage of steroids, regardless of whether he was a willing participant or not.

The legend has admitted his regrets about that phase of his career time and time again. That makes way for redemption, doesn’t it? From the looks of it, the BBWAA voters have had a similar change of heart as well. The 6.1% jump in the ballots proves their willing acceptance of the former slugger.
