Teams are gearing up for the spring of 2024 like never before. Especially when it comes to this particular pair of rivals. A quick background story on their recent moves is worth mentioning. Big-league hitting coach, now a former Pinstripe, was let go in early July 2023. It was the first time in Brian Cashman’s 25-year career that he terminated a coach mid-season. After all, he wanted a new “voice“.

Though excellent at his work, Dillon Lawson needed to be replaced. Hence the Yankees brought in Sean Casey, who connected with the batters right away. He was a three-time MLB All-Star who, without any coaching experience, made a mark on the Yankees. With that, their arch-nemesis in Boston had an opportunity to grab.

Former big-league hitting coach of the New York Yankees, Lawson has joined the Boston Red Sox as hitting coordinator. He confirmed to The Athletic that in Boston, working with the club’s upper-level minor-league players would be his chief priority. He remarked, “I’m excited to be joining a great team that’s already moving in the right direction“. 

Before the Yankees released Dillon, amid severe offensive difficulties, he had been the team’s principal hitting coach since the 2022 season began. Lawson was a part of the Yankees franchise since 2018. At the time he had taken over as minor-league hitting coordinator. Though his stint in the Bronx was cut short quite prematurely, he is all set to contribute to Boston.
