The once red-hot Philadelphia Phillies are crackling lifelessly, seemingly powerless against the Arizona Diamondbacks. It is impossible not to notice how Bryce Harper contributed to what happened during Game 6 as the Phillies lost a home game for the first time this postseason. 45,473 folks at Citizens Bank Park helplessly watched the D-Backs silencing their lineup with a 5-1 victory. Who would their fury be directed at other than the team leader?

The Torey Lovullo-led team has forced a game 7 and will take on the Phillies one last time. But Monday afternoon’s errors are still fresh in fans’ minds, who are looking to Philly’s star slugger to blame.

Bryce Harper Faces Blame for Philadelphia Phillies Struggles

Not everyone needs to bear the official title for fans to understand their role in a team. It goes much beyond just showing up to play on the diamond and it was evident in NBC Sports Philadelphia’s questions. Upon being asked what he would do to make sure that the team would relax and play, Harper’s competitive side showed. Clearly, the Phillies did not deliver what was expected of them, but he said, “Tomorrow’s all about going 1-0”. As the Diamondbacks were the 5-1 victors, forcing a Game 7 on Tuesday night, a disarrayed moment from Game 6 emerged.

As per the video clip Jomboy Media posted, in an attempt to make a catch, Bryce Harper’s glove gave way, failing him. The tweet captioned “The ball went right through Bryce Harper’s glove” summed up precisely what happened at the moment. It was Philadelphia’s 2nd disengagement and this time the glove’s lace was loose.

Incidentally, this was not the first major postseason mistake by Harper, who made a huge baserunning blunder in NLDS Game 2 against the Braves. It cost the Fighting Phils, earning the manager’s anger, but the slugger redeemed himself by making history in the next game. Can he do it again?

As the D-Backs’ manager put it, “Anything can happen in Game 7. It’s wide open. It’s a crap shoot”. If Arizona beats Philadelphia in the upcoming game, they’d be accomplishing what no team since 2007’s Colorado Rockies has accomplished; defeat the Phillies in 2 straight postseason games in ‘The Bank’.
