Very few athletes could master two different sports and play at the highest level. It includes Deion Sanders, who leads the list. Famously known as ‘Prime Time’, the legendary athlete played both in the MLB and NFL, with resounding success. It also made him the only athlete to play two prime competition finals, i.e. Super Bowl and World Series. And because of this, the world always thought Sanders would consider both sports equals. But that was not the case.

Sanders considered baseball a harder sport. It was visible in his grind which he continued for nine years, though he never committed himself to the league for the entire season. During a conversation with Shannon Sharpe during an episode of CLUB SHAY SHAY, Coach Prime discussed many insights from his life including his journey as an MLB and NFL athlete.

Deion Sanders Believes Baseball Harder Than Football

Deion Sanders is certainly the best person to understand the similarities between baseball and football. Having embraced both during his playing career, he is well-versed with both sports. But he is also fully aware of the differences. And it was visible in his take on the question: Which is the hardest sport?

The former Atlanta Falcons and New York Yankees star justified his claim and said, “That ball does some things to you. Any sport where you can fail 7 out of 10 times, and become great, and make $2-300 million, that’s a hard sport.”

While also explaining his decision to play baseball if it was so hard, Sanders added, “I love challenges, and I could not master it. It frustrated me because I hate to lose, and I hate not mastering something that I know if I just had more time I could.”

Sanders’ success, even after limited game time, adds weight to his claim. During his time at the diamond, Sanders batted 2,123 times and recorded an average of 0.263, recording 39 home runs and 168 RBI in nine seasons. But even after this, why he never played the whole season?

Why Did Sanders Never Complete a Full Season in MLB?

Sanders’ success in the MLB raises a significant question regarding his decision not to play a full season. The answer appears straightforward: due to his passion for both baseball and football, he desired to participate in both sports. However, the challenge arose from the fact that baseball had a longer season with limited breaks, necessitating his departure from one sport to commit to an entire MLB season.
