Vadim Nemkov is one of the best Light Heavyweight’s that isn’t currently signed to the UFC. While him fighting Jan Blachowicz in a cross-promotion matchup is a pipe dream, there are some other former UFC title contenders that Nemkov may soon have to face in the Bellator Grand Prix.

Nemkov beat Phil Davis to win his first fight of the GP. He now awaits the winner of Yoel Romero and Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson. Both men are debuting in the promotion, with Romero coming off his UFC run and Johnson returning from retirement. Either way, Nemkov isn’t worried.

“I feel great. I have no serious injuries. I’m going to shortly take a quick break and get ready for the next step.… I think I won the first three rounds. The fourth, I think I lost. The fifth was pretty even, but I came out a winner. Phil Davis works in the same tempo for a three-round or five-round fight. It doesn’t matter to him.”

Nemkov added, “Both fighters are very unpredictable. They can strike and wrestle. I’m a champion, and I’m ready for whoever wins that fight.… It doesn’t matter to me. Both fighters are good on the ground or (at) standup. It’s going to be a good fight for me to win.” (h/t MMAJunkie.com)

Vadim Nemkov: Is he going to win the Grand Prix?

Vadim Nemkov is probably one of the most dangerous fighters outside the UFC. His record speaks for itself. He dethroned Ryan Bader when it looked like Bader genuinely cannot be beaten. The win over Phil Davis also counts as Nemkov’s first title defense since taking the belt from Bader. However, is he destined to add another defense to his name over Yoel Romero or Rumble Johnson?

Romero was challenging for the UFC Middleweight Championship just about a year ago. While Johnson hasn’t fought in a long time, he has a power that cannot be matched by many others in the world of MMA. Getting past them and possibly re-matching Ryan Bader in the Finals means that there are a lot of interesting matchups for Nemkov that will play out through the tournament.
