Stephen Thompson and Geoff Neal headlined the final event of 2020, i.e. UFC Vegas 17 in a welterweight bout. The card was initially set to be headlined by Khamzat Chimaev and Leon Edwards. However, a positive test for Edwards ruled him out of the bout.
This meant that ‘Wonderboy’ and ‘Handz of Steel’ were tasked with putting on the final show of 2020 before drawing the curtains on yet another fantastic year for fight fans and the UFC.
The two men did not disappoint as they put on an excellent fight. Thompson proved once again why he is regarded as one of the best strikers, not only at 170-pounds, but also in the UFC. He was able to secure a resounding unanimous decision win over 11th ranked Geoff Neal.

Thompson landed an impressive 191 total strikes with an accuracy of 45% and 171 significant strikes with an accuracy of 42%. At 37, ‘Wonderboy’ proved that he still has a lot left in the tank and could possibly fight his way back to the top. He is now 2-0 in his last two fights and could for the title again if he secures a few more wins.
Given how impressive he looked, not many fans would think that a future title fight will be too tough to secure.
