UFC welterweight veteran Jorge Masvidal suffered a devastating KO loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 261. Masvidal, who had never been knocked out in UFC, was known for having an iron jaw. However, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ made history at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena as he handed ‘Gamebred’ only his second career KO defeat.
Following the fight, many fighters gave their opinion on the match. ‘Funky’ who suffered the fastest KO in UFC history at UFC 239 tweeted, “I don’t believe in Karma. If you fight long enough s**t happens.”

‘Gamebred’ certainly qualifies as someone who has fought long enough. Hence, per ‘Askren’s tweet, something like this was due for the 50-fight veteran. The UFC’s BMF is now sailing in the same boat as ‘Funky’ following his own first UFC knockout.
Askren has yet to win a fight after that. It was the first of his three successive defeats in combat sports, the latest being his first-round knockout loss to ‘The Problem Child’ Jake Paul in his boxing bow. It remains to be seen if Masvidal can bounce back and avoid a similar fate.

Askren had entered UFC in 2019 as an undefeated fighter. ‘Funky’ was 18-0 with championship wins at Bellator MMA and ONE Championship. However, things were completely different for him in UFC. He met Robbie Lawler at UFC 235 and won that fight via bulldog choke.
As mentioned earlier, Masvidal knocked Askren out at UFC 239 in record time in his second match. This loss ended his undefeated streak in MMA. He next faced Demian Maia in Singapore and lost that fight via a rear-naked choke in round three. ‘Funky’ announced his retirement from MMA shortly after that fight.
