Kevin Holland returned to action for the third time in 2021 at UFC Vegas 38. ‘Trailblazer’ took on a tough assignment in Kyle Daukaus in a bid to prove that he is not a one-dimensional fighter.
In his last few outings, the likes of Marvin Vettori, and Derek Brunson have exposed Holland’s wrestling game. Holland vowed to improve his wrestling, and spent the majority of his time at ‘Hendrickestan’ trying to fix a gaping hole in his arsenal.
Holland’s fight against Daukaus ended in a controversial no-contest following an accidental headbutt. Fans and pundits alike are split on the decision of a no-contest. Veteran UFC commentator Jon Anik shared his thoughts on the stoppage in a recent tweet.

Kevin Holland vs Kyle Daukaus- an overview
Leading up to the fight, it was evident that Daukaus’ easiest route to victory would be to take down Holland and submit him. Daukaus had secured 80% of his wins via submission going into the fight and, therefore, was a no-brainer. Daukaus shot for a takedown almost as soon as the fight started. However, Holland was successful in defending the takedown and showed significant improvements in his wrestling defense.

The fight, unfortunately, ended when the two men clashed heads. As soon as the two men clashed heads, Holland was unconscious for a bit and hit the floor. Daukaus sensed his opponent was hurt and immediately pounced on his neck to secure a rear-naked choke.
After a few scrambles, Daukaus was able to secure the back and sink in a tight rear-naked choke. However, as soon as Holland tapped out, the referee along with the judges present ringside ruled the bout a no-contest for an accidental headbutt.

While many people believe this was the right call, others argue that if Holland had survived the onslaught and secured a win later on it would have counted as a win for him.
