UFC 264 features the return of the biggest name in the promotion. Just six months on from his last fight, ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor will get back into the octagon to even the scores with rival Dustin Poirier. Although the majority of attention will be on the main event, the UFC has spared no expenses in ensuring that the card is stacked with some incredible fights as it will be the first time that the promotion welcomes a full capacity crowd in their home city since the pandemic.
Unfortunately for fans, an interesting fight between Sean Brady and Kevin Lee had to be withdrawn from the card as Lee suffered an injury.
By the looks of it, it seems as though another fight will have to be canceled. Promising bantamweight star Sean O’Malley was set to take on Louis Smolka at UFC 264, but recent reports suggest that Smolka is out of the bout due to an undisclosed injury.

Will Sean O’Malley find an opponent on short notice for UFC 264?
‘Sugar’ is not only one of the biggest names in the bantamweight division, he is also an extremely impressive fighter. A lot of fighters have thrown their hate in the mix to face O’Malley at UFC 264. Including the likes of Merab Dvalishvili, Tim Elliott, and others.
Interestingly, Dvalishvili has a fight lined up with Marlon Moraes for UFC 266 on Sept. 25 Given the rankings that would make the most sense would be Merab Dvalishvili who said he is willing to fight O’Malley and then fight Moraes in three months time. ‘The Machine’ is on a tremendous six-fight win streak and is currently ranked 10th in the bantamweight division. He has looked extremely impressive in his last few outings and a fight against O’Malley would be an extremely interesting fight stylistically.

A win over a big name in O’Malley on one of the biggest cards of the year is a prospect that will entice a lot of fighters. However, it remains to be seen if O’Malley will accept a short-notice fight to stay on the card or if he would want a fight later in the month.
