Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed his summer plans, and has said he wants to sign 3 new players.

The Portuguese has said he needs one player in every area of the field in order to remain competitive with rivals Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City.

Mourinho told BT sports: “We have to improve. If we have the same team the other teams will be better than us.”

But Mourinho did admit that first challenge will be to keep his best players.

“If I keep Eden Hazard, Nemanja Matic, Branislav Ivanovic, Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas – for us that’s the first target.

“I think we need three players. A striker because we lost [Didier Drogba], a defender and a midfield player.”

Chelsea has been linked with Rademal Falcao and Christian Benteke to increase their striking force.

In the midfield, Marseille midfielder Giannelli Imbula is on Londoners radar.

Defensively, after the refusal on Atletico Madrid centre-back Toby Alderweireld, who impressed on loan at Southampton last season, Mourinho is looking at his fellow Atleti defender Miranda.

The ‘Special One’ also insisted that he needs the new signings to increase the competition in the side and keep everyone motivated.

Mourinho said: “Bringing some new blood in will put some of the team under a little bit under pressure.

“They need to know there is someone waiting to take their place – now they are the champions, I need that to sustain my way of working. But basically, I want to keep the same players, the same squad, the same manager, and bring stability to the club.”

Chelsea might also have to bring a new back-up to Thibaut Courtois, if Petr Čech decides to leave.
