Naomi Osaka continued her dominant run by winning the 2021 Australian Open title. Osaka defeated Jennifer Brady in straight sets in the final to win her 4th Grand Slam trophy.
With the impressive victory, Osaka joined the elite club of Monica Seles and Roger Federer to have won in their first four Grand Slam finals.

The Japanese talked about playing long enough to compete against a player who considered Osaka as her favorite player growing up.

“This is gonna sound really odd. Hopefully, I play long enough to play a girl that said I was once her favorite player. For me, that’s the coolest thing that could ever happen to me,” said Osaka, during the post-match conference.

Osaka mentioned watching all her favorite players and having earned the opportunity to play against some of them. Since the start of her career, Osaka has repeatedly called Serena Williams her childhood idol.

However, the 23-year-old expressed regret at not having received the chance to play against the 2-time Grand Slam champion Li Na and feels role models play a crucial role in taking the sport forward.
“I have those feeling of watching my favorite players, unfortunately, I didn’t get to play Li Na. But yeah, I just think that’s how the sport moves forward,” added Osaka.
This was the second time Osaka triumphed at the Australian Open and she now has a 14-match winning streak in Grand Slams. Overall, Osaka is riding on an astonishing 21-match winning streak that dates back from last year.

Winning the title at Melbourne Park will make Osaka rise to No.2 in the WTA rankings. She will overtake Simona Halep and will be just behind Australia’s Ashleigh Barty.
