What is the favourite match ever of Naomi Osaka? 

The Japanese sensation Naomi Osaka revealed that Australian Open final of 2019 was her favourite match ever. In fact, Osaka would go on to win the grand slam. Notable, this was her second consecutive grand slam triumph, having already claimed the US Open.

The match itself was an interesting story. Osaka was facing off against seasoned veteran Petra Kvitova. In fact, the Czech showed her experience after she won the second set, being 5-3 down and saving three championship points. However, a spirited Osaka regrouped quickly to win the final set 6-4. Just like that, Osaka etched her name in the history books.

Osaka became the first woman since Jennifer Capriati in 2001 to follow her first grand slam win with one immediately after that. She also became the second woman after Serena William in 2015 to win two majors in a row.

An emotional Osaka received her trophy from Chinese tennis legend Li na. She was the first Asian woman to win a grand slam, having won the French Open in 2011. Some might wonder why Osaka doesn’t consider her win against Serena Williams in the US Open final as her favourite. In fact, it was her first grand slam title.

Well, it was a match marred by controversies. Serena had an intense conflict with the chair umpire. In fact, her attitude was booed by the fans in attendance who continued doing it in the post-match ceremony too. Osaka herself revealed that this was “bittersweet” and would not go down as her favourite memory. That’s probably why this wasn’t mentioned as her favourite match.
