Sometimes in motorsport, there is that rare occurrence of red mist that clouds all judgement. This is when emotions take over and all rational thinking is thrown out of the window, and then the brawling starts. However, such behaviour is rarely seen in motorsports series, like Formula One. The maximum it goes to is a shouting match, for example when Formula E driver Sebastien Buemi had a massive verbal spat with Daniel Abt, Robin Frijns and Antonio Felix Da Costa. But on the other side of the Atlantic, especially in NASCAR, things be a bit more violent.

Case in point, the All-Stars race in Charlotte, witnessed Clint Bowyer and Ryan Newman exchange fisticuffs. As it turned out, the incident was triggered when the Number 6 car of Newman tagged the 14 car of Bowyer.

The furious Bowyer stormed up to Newman and unleashed a flurry of punches. Afterwards, Newman also got out of his car and proceeded to have a heated discussion with Bowyer. When Clint went to unleash hell, some of the mechanics and NASCAR officials had to run in and restrain the fuming driver.

Newman was unimpressed with the manner in which, Bowyer raced him. So, he tapped Bowyer’s bumper on the cool down lap to make his feelings known.

Newman flatly said, “Doesn’t take much of a man to try to fight somebody with a helmet on. I think he should be embarrassed of himself.”

Bowyer responded with, “After the race, he comes and runs into my back and turns me all around, and I pull up next to him, and he dumps me into (Turn) 4. Where I come from, you get poked in the nose for that. What he got.”

The stewards also promised to keep an eye on the two warring drivers in the future. NASCAR senior vice president Scott Miller said, “We’re going to keep an eye on it. We certainly think we’re in a good place with them, but we’ll certainly have to monitor it moving forward with those two.”
