Having watched quite a few at tracks during his childhood days, NBA legend Michael Jordan is no stranger to NASCAR racing. But as he steps into the Daytona International Speedway this time around, the feeling would be something different altogether.

After all, he has now entered the world of NASCAR as a proper majority team owner, introducing his own outfit named 23XI Racing. But, make no mistake, he is not here just to compete but also to win.

Ahead of Sunday’s Daytona 500, co-owner and Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin speaks about the former Chicago Bulls superstar’s excitement levels. Talking in a brief video, Hamlin jokingly mentioned using a tactic on Jordan during the race!

Michael Jordan is making sure that he’s got his own radio, said Denny Hamlin

The Joe Gibbs Racing No.11 stated, “It’s just something he’s really looking forward to. He’s wondering, you know, making sure that he’s got his own radio and all that.

“I just got to make sure we do like we do with Joe (Gibbs). And that’s to remove the push to talk button,” concluded Hamlin on the subject.

Starting off in the 2021 Busch Clash, Ty Dillon, who took Wallace’s place on the starting grid, delivered an 18th placed finish. Although the result was not encouraging, there were signs that 23XI Racing had built a good car.

Wallace then clocked the fastest lap in practice midweek, following it up with a top-half finish in qualifying. While he could have quite easily gone on to win his Duel, a second in there sees him take to the field in sixth for the 2021 Daytona 500.
