It is not just Formula 1, that boasts of a stellar fanbase, where artists and athletes across all fields come together to cheer and support their favorite drivers during the Grand Prix. NASCAR, too, is not far behind. It is not a rarity to spot one or the other Hollywood actor in the paddocks or in the stands of NASCAR. In fact, a few Hollywood actors even have acted as the Grand Marshalls for the game, ordering the drivers to start their engines.

However, it’s not just Hollywood that has proved to be an avid fan of stock car racing. Athletes from other sports have also shown their enthusiasm in the world of NASCAR. To state the most obvious example, NBA legend Michael Jordan, who is not only a fan of the sport but also owns a NASCAR team, 23XI Racing. Now, Miami Heat’s Tyler Herro has also joined the list of star fans, the proof being his jacket.

Miami Heat’s guard Tyler Herro was hopeful of bringing a title to their team in the NBA finals, as he returned to the game after being sidelined because of a broken right hand. But the guard never got to prove his potential in the game, as he was held off by his coach Erik Spoelstra. This resulted in a disappointing defeat by the Denver Nuggets, after taking a lead of 28 points. Denver Nuggets clinched away the title and ended the season with a 94-89 points victory.

But before the harrowing defeat on Monday, the guard confirmed that he was a NASCAR fan. He was seen sporting a NASCAR jacket with Martin Truex Jr’s name on it as he entered the Ball Arena of Denver ahead of the game.

Martin Truex Jr, of Joe Gibbs Racing, was the victor of Sunday’s Toyota/Save Mart 350. It was his second win of the season and his fourth win at the wine city. Owing to this fact, the Miami Heat did require the lucky charms of Truex Jr to extend their series and dominance over Denver Nuggets. But to their utter dismay, the charm did not work its way in favor of the former.

Although Herro had been the leading scorer of the season, to everybody’s disappointment he was not seen running and dribbling in his jersey. Herro had exclaimed after the team’s defeat to ESPN, “But that’s the hardest-played, most physical competition you can have. And that would be a tough thing for a guy that’s been out for two months, that hasn’t had any kind of ramp-up. But that won’t save me from thinking about that for the next few weeks.”

Fans go berserk after seeing Herro sporting a NASCAR jacket

Although Tyler Herro may have faced a bitter loss, he did gain some new fans from the world of NASCAR, after sporting Truex Jr’s jacket. Netizens took to Twitter and wrote,

“With the MTJ jacket.”

“W mtj jacket i wonder if he watched the race sunday is dressed accordingly.”

“Truex’s luck didn’t wear off tho….”

Others also commented, “D*mn. Not only a DEI Truex jacket…his rookie year jacket! 2006. I have one, too!”

The world of sports is surely a finite space, where the athletes share the same mindset of winning and being at the top of their game. While it may have been disappointing for Herro to lose the game after returning from recovery, that won’t stop fans from hoping for their favorite team of a better comeback.
