Alex Bowman sensed that there was a lesson to be learned from his challenging journey. Back in 2015, when Alex was racing for Tommy Baldwin Racing, things didn’t go as planned, and he ended up finishing 33rd in the overall standings. But it looks like he never lost hope and was positive that he’d bounce back strong next season.

Then came the blow he never saw coming—the unexpected news: the team fired him. It was official—he was no longer a part of their organization. Alex Bowman then joined Hendrick Motorsports’ simulator racing, getting a seat in Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Cup car in 2016. He made the most of it and became a name to reckon with.

Since his comeback, Alex Bowman has been struggling to find his groove. The lack of performance has been tough to watch, with him finishing outside the top 10 in ten races. And to top it all off, he’s now 42 points short of the playoff cutoff.

Alex told Fox Sports journalist Bob Pockrass that,

“Learning that I got fired on Twitter was the best thing that ever happened to me, it just didn’t feel like it in the moment. I don’t know that that’s ever going to be the case as far as breaking my back. So probably breaking my back, laying in the hospital in the middle of Iowa on your 30th birthday — that whole time frame of my life was not the most fun. But that’s part of life, and I’m definitely better from it.”

Michael McDowell, AJ Allmendinger, Daniel Saurez, and Bubba Wallace are all battling it out for those 15th and 16th spots, and the points difference is razor-thin. All three have the potential to swoop in and win one or two of the remaining six races.

However, most of these remaining 6 races are at tracks where Alex Bowman’s performance was downright impressive: Pocono and Richmond Raceways. Those races are just around the corner, and we’re pumped to see what he’ll bring to the table!

Bowman told Pockrass, “Honestly, anywhere we go with Hendrick Motorsports, you feel like you have a chance to win. But being two of my better racetracks — which is crazy to think about as bad as I was at Richmond for so long — I’m excited to go to those places.”
