Back in 2021, when Davide Brivio announced his departure from the MotoGP paddock to venture into the world of Formula 1 as Alpine F1’s Racing Director, fans of the famed two-wheeler series were more than just shocked. After all, Brivio had just come off of his latest MotoGP World Championships with Joan Mir and Suzuki, a record-breaking feat that finally put an end to the team’s 20-year-long drought of winning the title.

And while expectations were set in a similar realm for his Formula 1 stint, after three years and no major progress toward the frontrunners, it’s safe to Brivio returning to his home ground was an inevitable prospect. So when Justin Marks and Trackhouse Racing’s MotoGP team was finally taking shape, all it took was Brivio to show slight interest. And just like that, Trackhouse Racing is now going to be led by one of motorsport’s most successful team principals!

While it’s no secret that Davide Brivio is perhaps the perfect fit for a new project like Trackhouse Racing, his move to Formula 1 was also for similar reasons. Renault was going through a major makeover and transitioning to Alpine, meaning the team was surrounded by new personnel. And with a driver of Fernando Alonso’s calibre making his way into the crew, it seemed like the perfect opportunity for Brivio to be a part of a new beginning in Formula 1.

Unfortunately, the team failed to build momentum through the last few seasons whilst their competitors seemed to keep getting further ahead. So naturally, after three years of leading Alpine, it was time for Brivio to take on a new challenge. While you might be saying Moto GP itself isn’t a new challenge for the established TP, the fact that Trackhouse Racing is bringing forward an entirely new team creates an enticing proposition.

In a statement released by MotoGP, Brivio stated, “It all happened very quickly in the last days with Justin asking me to help Trackhouse in the MotoGP challenge. It’s so exciting to be a part of this new project since the beginning and I’m really looking forward to get to know Trackhouse more and see what we can bring to MotoGP from the successful vision and experience that this company has in other sports and environments.”

Brivio feels that it could be a great combination and that there is only one test that remains before the team gets to racing, so the pressure is on. He added, “We will try to support as much as we can our two talented riders Miguel and Raul and have fun. In the last few days everything has happened very quickly and before I could not say where I was going but hey, it’s great news and we will start working quickly!”

And it isn’t just Brivio that is pumping with excitement at the new opportunity. After all, it isn’t every day that a championship-winning Team Principal expresses interest in a brand new challenger!

Born and raised in Monza, Northern Italy, Davide Brivio has certainly always had a love for motorsport coursing through his veins. But while most motorsport categories have caught his eye, none have managed to maintain his gaze for as long as Moto GP has. From racing in motocross himself to running racing teams, Brivio is the embodiment of what a successful Moto GP Team Principal strives to be.

So when Justin Marks got the opportunity to appoint Brivio as the Trackhouse Racing MotoGP Team Principal, no time was wasted. Marks stated.”It’s incredible to have someone of Davide’s calibre and experience leading the Trackhouse Racing MotoGP Team. All of us at the company are humbled by the commitment he has made. It became apparent the moment I met Davide that he would be someone who fit perfectly in the Trackhouse culture. I know he will lead us to great things on and off the racetrack.”

And it’s safe to say that could very well be the case as we head into a new era of Moto GP. Not only has the team already been making waves with the Livery reveal for the Aprilia RS-GP 24, but having an ambitious but more importantly, capable leader will make Justin Marks’ side a formidable force for the 2024 season. But do you think the move will be equally fruitful for Brivio, who has faced hard luck with Alpine as of late?
