The race unfolded in dramatic fashion, with AJ Allmendinger leading the final 33 laps of the 109-lap race. His dominance in the third and final stage was evident, and it was clear that he wouldn’t settle for anything less than victory. The defining moment came when AJ Allmendinger faced off against Ty Gibbs and the formidable Busch in the later stages of the race with 12 laps to go. Allmendinger outperformed a late-charging William Byron, ultimately securing his third Cup Series victory.

In an emotional post-race interview, Allmendinger couldn’t hold back his tears of joy. He dedicated the win to the dedicated team at Kaulig Racing, his family, and friends who had supported him through thick and thin. Also, Allmendinger’s raw emotions mirrored the roller-coaster journey that brought him to this triumphant moment.

Marty Snider asked him, “Why was this one so emotional?

“Cuz you don’t know when you’re gonna do it again,” AJ said in a shaky voice, adding, “I love all the men and women at Kaulig Racing so much. First of all, out to my beautiful wife, my new baby boy. I usually give these chequered flags away, but I am gonna have to wrap this around Aero. My mom and dad all my family and friends—those people see how much anguish and how much I put on my shoulder when we’re struggling. It means the world, I hate crying right now, but you just…it’s a freaking Cup Race man! You never when is it ever gonna happen again. Let’s go! Come on!”

“Does all that anguish make this moment worth it AJ?” Marty asked.

“And more, this is why you do it. This is the only reason you do it. You fight all the blood, sweat, and tears. Everybody at Kaulig Racing has been such a… I’d say a down year, It’s been up and down year. You know it’s our second year in the Cup Series. […] A big thanks to everybody that allows us to do this, but especially Matt [Kaulig] and Chris [Rice],” AJ concluded.

Earlier in the season, Kyle Busch had shown great promise with three wins in the regular season, sparking hope that he could secure his third championship. However, as the playoffs progressed, his fortunes took a downturn. Entering the race in Charlotte, Busch faced the daunting task of needing a win to advance to the Round of 8. The pressure was on, and Busch was determined to take every opportunity to secure that vital victory.

As the race unfolded, he led for several laps during the second stage, with AJ Allmendinger in hot pursuit. Allmendinger eventually overtook him and maintained a stranglehold on the race. With caution flags waving and the race marred by multiple restarts, Kyle Busch tried to “leapfrog” the frontrunners in the pits. However, despite his efforts, victory eluded him, and he finished third.

This third-place finish meant that Busch’s championship hopes were dashed, and his season came to an abrupt end. The Round of 12 had proven to be a roller-coaster journey for Busch, with a DNF at Texas and a 25th-place finish at Talladega. These setbacks turned the race at Charlotte into a win-or-go-home scenario, and Busch came up short.
