NASCAR’s 2024 season is shaping up to be a double-edged sword. On one end, the on-track action has never been this intense in recent memory. But on the other, various controversies and issues continue to plague the Cup Series. From the short-track package to Goodyear’s tire woes, there are quite a few kinks that still lie in the top category’s way toward redemption.

On the contrary, the lower divisions seem to be pulling ahead lately, with the Xfinity Series announcing a new deal with The CW for 2025. Although this deal was due to kick in next year, owing to contingencies, the CW will step up as early as September of this year. Speaking of which, insiders revealed that the new broadcaster is wasting no time in connecting with the stakeholders, which in hindsight, matters the most.

It’s no secret that NBC and Fox’s decades-long tenure over the Xfinity Series has reached a boiling point. From fans complaining about missed replays to complete blunders in reporting the drivers involved in certain incidents, it certainly hasn’t been a good look. So when The CW was expected to step in earlier than planned, the community wasn’t too sure of what to expect, owing to past experiences.

However, it seems like the broadcaster has truly hit the mark instantly with Xfinity teams and drivers alike. Tommy Joe Martins, the president of Team Alpha Prime, shared insights into an inviting gesture by the broadcaster. He stated on X, “Got to meet our new broadcast partners at the  @TheCW and see @NASCAR media offices today. VERY nice & they gave us free beer.”

The veteran also highlighted how The CW’s wishes to make Xfinity Racing ‘The priority’ went hand in hand with “teams and drivers eager to share their stories.” According to the Alpha Prime president, the CW was interested in doing things right, and all Xfinity stakeholders seemed to be on board.

When asked by a fan on X if previous networks like NBC and Fox had made similar gestures, the answer was surprising to some. He stated, “First time we’ve had a big meet and greet with Xfinity team owners/team managers, drivers, television producers, and NASCAR brass literally ever” .

It seems like the CW is pulling out all the stops to show relevant stakeholders their keen commitment towards better coverage for Xfinity. That being said, the gesture toward meeting team owners and drivers and getting to know them on a deeper level resonated greatly with the NASCAR community.

As fans got wind of the CW’s heavy involvement and openness toward team owners, the community immediately pointed out the shortcomings of Fox and NBC throughout their tenure. One user brutally stated; “OH THE DOWNFALL OF FOX IS COMING” whilst another was elated to see progress; This makes me happy!! fox has the bar on the floor rn”

Evidently, FOX has been under fire for quite some time now, for their seemingly lackluster broadcasting. In the past, fans alleged that the media house failed to cover important aspects during a race. However, the complaints didn’t end there. Many also pointed out frequent commercial breaks hindered the racing watching experience. Hence, it’s understandable why fans would look forward to a new partnership. And not just fans, even industry insiders seemed pleased with the current state of affairs.

NASCAR journalist Jeff Gluck was all praises for The CW’s initiative. Toby Christie also stated, “Loving the sound of this! Broadcast partners that want to do it right is so crucial to success!” With the CW showcasing commitment to not just the top dogs but all teams alike, fans felt this is what was missing earlier.

A user shared, “Man, that’s key, and it’s really good they are getting with the team owners. The biggest thing holding back growth is coverage that cares. There no reason a team thats running around 10th-15th doesnt at least get some TV time, and I know thats a big problem right now”.

Still, fans pulled no punches against FOX and NBC. One fan stated,It feels good not seeing the word “Fox” when it comes to Xfinity broadcasting” whilst another added, When Fox and NBC have the bar laying on the floor… honestly have them take notes from F1 their coverage is amazing. Find the battles and tell all the stories.”

After taking a look at how the CW has quickly impressed not just Xfinity stakeholders but also NASCAR fans at large, do you think that FOX and NBC need to step up their game in the remainder of their tenure?
