NASCAR coverage on FOX has been under the scanner for quite some time now. There were instances where the cameras were unable to capture the action from the race, and this in turn has wound up many viewers questioning FOX’s race coverage. Unfortunately, the persistent issue is back to haunt the viewers during the Cup Series coverage of the COTA race.

It all started with the big pile-up going into turn 1 at the start of the race, which seemed to have caused Bubba Wallace and Martin Truex Jr some serious damage to their cars. But there was nothing for the fans to revisit or know about the wrecks. Kyle Larson got spun out by Stage 1 winner Christopher Bell, and this incident was again missed in the coverage. The only way that spectators have been able to learn about the run-ins and the accidents is through the FOX commentator’s booth. Even Josh Berry’s major spin was missed by the FOX coverage cameras.

New season, same old stubborn NASCAR race coverage

The first signs of sloppy coverage began in the first unofficial race of the season at the LA Coliseum. While the circumstances of them trying to make the last-minute changes did come into play with the race moving one day ahead, their coverage was well off. Given that most of the fans stayed home and had to watch the event on their TVs, the coverage certainly did not live up to its billing.

Not to forget, there was total confusion after the Daytona 500 finish regarding the race winner. NASCAR had to share the aerial shots to prove that William Byron was the winner. Even Dale Earnhardt Jr. had to call out the FOX broadcast during the Atlanta race. During the race, the camera shot was too focused, and they avoided wide panning views. This seemed to have frustrated Jr. Taking to X, he wrote, “These camera shots are too tight, Can’t see everything. There is sh*t ton going out there.”

Even Dale Jr. came out and expressed his discontent with the telecast, fans were hopeful things would change for the better. However, nothing good came out of it as NASCAR coverage continued the way it has. Given how the coverage has stayed the same over the years despite all the feedback, it seems like FOX won’t be turning a corner in delivering decent coverage anytime soon.

Prominent NASCAR journalist Jeff Gluck expressed his frustration with the coverage of the Circuit of the Americas race. He took to his X account to write, “NASCAR tower has called three spins today that I’ve never seen shown on any of the feeds (including two in the last couple minutes), which is kind of frustrating. How can we not know who is spinning out?”

One fan also stated that FOX has a script for covering the races, and they won’t budge in trying to improvise or add something new to it and wrote, “It’s like the produces have a script of exactly what they’re going to do and never adapt to anything unexpected that happens on the track. Just show the action.”

Reacting to the race event and questioning FOX’s coverage, a fan on X wrote, “FOX production is horrible and this entire app has been saying this for the last half a dozen years yet NASCAR decided to resigned with them for another deal”. Pointing out FOX’s shortcomings in covering the wrecks and spins, another fan added, “The Fox coverage has been missing a lot today. ” Another user wrote, “Fox telecast sucks….”

One user explained that this has been a running theme for some five years, and this treatment by the broadcaster should not be excused. “Fox production truck absolutely sucks at their jobs. For like 5 years now they’ve completely missed, or been extremely late to cutting to action or something the booth is hollering about. Inexcusable”.

FOX’s failure to deliver decent coverage has just been a recurring theme that started back during the Busch Light Clash and, unfortunately, has been continuing ever since.
