Before He Joined Hendrick Motorsports, Kyle Larson Came Clean on the Notoriously Rumored Part of His NASCAR Contract With CGR

Prior to Kyle Larson’s arrival at Hendrick Motorsports, he used to race with Chip Ganassi Racing, where apparently it was rumored that he had a clause in his contract that would prevent him from racing in certain formats of motorsports. Later during an interview, Larson clarified the rumors once and for all.

Ken Stout asked, “I heard a rumor say that there is some small print. Or maybe it’s a large print inside of the contract that says you’re not allowed to run anything non-wing. Wing sprint car, okay. Non-wing midget or Sprint car is not good. Can you confirm or deny? “

Larson said, “I’ll deny that obviously because I race midgets almost as much as I race wing sprint cars. So, and then I just don’t I guess I enjoy racing non-wing sprint cars, or I enjoyed it… I don’t know. The crashes hurt a lot worse. I ran in Indiana a lot in 2011, 12 and you’re out there risking your body for $1400 every week and I guess I just grew tired of that and felt much safer in a winged sprint car.

Everybody’s got their opinion on what’s more exciting. But for me, I feel like the competition’s a lot harder in winged sprint cars compared to non-winged sprint cars… “

New Chapter for Kyle Larson

Back in 2020, Larson had fallen on the wrong side of things after supposedly making headlines for using the highly controversial and unethical word during an iRacing live broadcast. Soon he would find himself questioning his future as CGR terminated his contract with them. However, Hendrick Motorsports came to his rescue, as Larson went through sensitivity training and was allowed to race again.

In the year 2021, when Laron joined Hendrick Motorsports, armed with a fresh-multi-year contract at hand, Hendrick Motorsports made sure that Larson would be able to continue racing in the dirt series, with the condition that he kept his primary focus on the Cup Series.

Larson kept his word and Hendrick knew how good of a talent they signed after Larson won the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Championship. However, the reigning champion was not able to defend his title in 2022, as it was Joey Logano of Team Penske, who had the last laugh.
