There is a thin line between life and death, and there is always a sense of fear when it comes to the people we love and admire. Considering the ever-present threat to a driver’s life on NASCAR racetracks, fans understand and appreciate the essence of every moment.
Having experienced many gut-wrenching and even fatal accidents over the years, the fandom is sensitive to losing one more legend from the fraternity. Only recently, the news of three-time Winston Cup winner Cale Yarborough battling a rare genetic disorder broke out. The racing community was hit hard by the news. However, there’s optimistic news from elsewhere—the Duke Cancer Center in Durham.

NASCAR veteran rings the bell to announce his inspirational victory over cancer
Chocolate Myers is known for his significant contribution to many championship-winning seasons in the 80s and 90s. An exemplary crew member, he acted as the fueler for the legendary Dale Earnhardt Sr in his championship seasons in 1986–87, 1990–91, and 1993–94. A truly splendid career indeed.
Earlier this year, he was diagnosed with stage four mantle cell lymphoma, a very rare form of cancer. Trying to finish the toughest race of his life so far, he finally crossed the finish line and rang the bell to signify the last round of his chemotherapy. Myers’ wife Caron shared the good news with the world on Twitter and informed that in 3 months’ time, Chocolate will be starting his maintenance chemotherapy. She also expressed her gratefulness to the hospital staff and the doctors responsible for his recovery.
Speaking to WCNC Charlotte about what was the leading factor in his fight against cancer, he said, “When we started this cancer treatment, I was in the waiting room and I heard someone ring the bell and it was pretty emotional that somebody had made it and they were going to be okay. It motivated me. I wanted to ring that bell.”

Fans congratulate Myers on his ringing the bell to beat cancer
Myers is much loved and respected in the community. He has given fans some great moments during his time on the trackside as part of the legendary Richard Childress Racing pit crew. Reciprocating his love for the sport we all love, fans have showered their prayers and congratulations on the North Carolina native. NASCAR fans expressed their pleasure at the good news on Reddit as well.

Another fan on Twitter recalled his encounter with Chocolate, commenting, “So awesome to hear! I met Chocolate at DEI almost 20 years ago. Nicest guy you could ever want to meet! Good luck my friend.”
Another fan reminisced about one of his memorable moments when he ran up the track to celebrate Dale Earnhardt Jr‘s win at the Daytona 500 in 2001. It must have very emotional moment for him to watch The Intimadator’s son make it big in NASCAR.

Myers’s battle against cancer is truly an inspiration for everyone. Refusing to give up to the adversities, his persistence has finally paid off.
