Crew chiefs are as essential to a team’s success as any other individual. Their job isn’t limited only to strategizing during the races. They have to oversee the team operations throughout the week. Since the sport came into being, fans have witnessed some legendary crew chiefs. And there is no doubt that Rodney Childers, the crew chief of Kevin Harvick, is one of them.

The Stewart-Haas Racing crew chief has been around for quite some time. He currently manages the #4 Ford for 2014 Cup Series winner Kevin Harvick. In a career spanning over two decades, Childers’s contribution to the industry has been immense. He has been an important part of NASCAR, symbolizing seamless management and remarkable decision-making. Friendliness between the drivers and the crew chiefs might involve some banter between them. Well, Childers, it seems, has been on the receiving end of some of it.

Kevin Harvick gives fans a glance at Rodney Childers in a simulation setup

Over the years, NASCAR has kept up with the times and numerous technological advancements have been incorporated in the sport. In a recent tweet, Harvick gave the fans a look at the simulation setup of the North Wilkesboro Speedway. With Rodney at the helm, the image has been a topic of friendly banter on the social platform. So much so that even former Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski wants a part of it.

Harvick posted his crew chief’s photo on social media with the caption, We let the chief @RodneyChilders4 work in the @NWBSpeedway set up today from the drivers seat in the simulator today!! Looks intense and made my day watching!

Keselowski joined the conversation, wanting to see more of Rodney in the sim setup. He expressed his desire to see some more crew chiefs trying out the simulation.

Fans React to Rodney’s Picture on the Simulation

The fans did not let go of the chance to take part in the banter involving the three NASCAR greats. Some even wanted to see the crew chief in a car, racing on the track: “Can’t wait to see him in a 2nd KHI car sometime!”

One fan shared Keselowski’s enthusiasm after seeing Childers in a sim setup: “Please please share video when ya can, I know it’s high security, just want to see his face!”

Childers himself responded to Harvick’s tweet:

Some of the tweets took us back to the days when a younger Childers used to race the asphalt actively: “I hear tell he was a helluva driver back in the day!!! Bet he did a good job”

“Would love to see him turn a wheel again”

A fan alluded to the fact that Harvick will retire after this season, saying, “You know when your done racing this year I hope you and him continue to do stuff together always enjoy listening to you guys on the track.”

It would indeed be wonderful to see more crew chiefs trying out sim racing.
