2022 was when NASCAR hatched the proposition of making the sport inclusive in nature. While the authority was struggling with declining viewership, they were ready to make the leap of faith, ensuring they retain their old glory. Thus, cropped up the idea of street car racing, a common variant in the world of other motorsports, apart from NASCAR.

In order to make those dreams come to fruition, Julie Giese was appointed as the President of Chicago Street Racing, who had also overlooked NASCAR’s rebuilding projects at Daytona and Phoenix. Within a short period of time, Giese signed a three-year agreement with then-Mayor Lori Lightfoot which finally gave shape to the most ambitious projects of NASCAR.

Fast forward to 2023, the race which could have turned out to be the biggest disaster, delivered the most remarkable results. Even the relentless rain could do little to disrupt the race. But the question that bugs the mind of every NASCAR enthusiast is whether NASCAR will return for another season in the Windy City.

Chicago city Mayor provides assurance on the future possibilities of hosting the race

The torrential rain had the potential of ruining Sunday’s Cup Series in Chicago, like the Xfinity series. But after a 90-minute delay, the sky finally cleared up, for the drivers to rev up their engines, and speed past Buckingham Fountain and Lake Michigan. Although the driver had initially shown their apprehension about racing on an alien track, it was a stunner of a show.

While the race received an unprecedented success, there were muffled speculations that the race might not return to the city for the 2024 season, given the disruptions that the residents faced due to the closure of the main arteries of the city. But it seems there might be some optimistic results as Mayor Brandon Johnson revealed his stance for the future.

He expressed, “So very grateful that despite the extreme weather, NASCAR was able to deliver with minimal disruption and there were some dynamics had to consider. I am grateful to the people of Chicago who made that adjustment, and the people who came in to visit. Like everything that I inherited, I am a teacher so I will asses it and it would be an open process, where other folks would weigh in.

“Obviously, the extreme weather, something that we are all seeing all over the country, plays a role in the outcomes. You have one region in the world, where they are expecting 110 degrees, another region where there is fire, and you have our region that has unprecedented levels of rain.

So, obviously, disconcerting but with the quality of care that we have, the people of Chicago demonstrating today, much like what folks demonstrated positions around NASCAR, I am confident that the people of Chicago and our administration would come up with a way for the best interest of the people,” Mayor Johnson added.
