Last night, the NASCAR Cup race at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval, wrapped up. However, there were a fair number of drivers who were not happy with how the race panned out. Chief among them were Hendrick Motorsports star Chase Elliott, and former Hendrick driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Elliott fumed, “It’s just stupid. This is the stupidest shit ever. Can’t save your stuff. Can’t run hard”. Meanwhile, Dale Earnhardt Jr had an even bigger criticism. He said, “Once these cars get single-filed out, passing is nonexistent”. This was a clear reference to the fact that overtaking was incredibly difficult and the race was almost processional.

Now, it is very clear, that the likes of Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick had a point, with their criticisms. As for the race itself, Elliott was actually in a decent position to win but got spun out. What makes this situation even worse is that the #9 driver does not believe that the next few tracks will favor much overtaking.

What lies ahead for Chase Elliott in the 2022 Cup season?

Unfortunately, Hendrick Motorsports was dealt a massive blow with the elimination of defending champion, Kyle Larson. Also joining him in the relegation zone are teammates Alex Bowman, Austin Cindric and Daniel Suarez. This means that the only Hendrick drivers in title contention are, William Byron and Chase Elliott himself. So, the pressure is really on, with the Round of 8 starting this weekend.

Elliott knows that he cannot afford to rest on his laurels, and must secure a win at one of the next three races. In the coming weekend, the paddock heads to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Chase Elliott has never won at this track, but there’s no time like the present, to try and rectify that. He can only hope that the quality of racing can improve at Vega, Homestead-Miami, Martinsville and Phoenix.
