Dale Earnhardt Jr Condemns the Claims of NASCAR Drivers Retiring Younger Than They Are Supposed To

In one of the recent podcasts of Dale Jr Download, the NASCAR Hall of Famer, Dale Earnhardt Jr disapproved of the claim of NASCAR drivers retiring prematurely.

Moreover, he stated that he can’t seem to find reasons a driver retires in an early stage of life.

Dale Jr said, “I think that um…you know, I don’t really sense that guys are retiring earlier, it doesn’t feel that way to me. I mean, name me a guy that retired early, can’t think of one.”

He then added, “I would say to that like it’s case by case.”

“Harvick and Denny and these guys are running. If we’re talking about the last five decades, yes because I mean you know Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Dave Marcis. All these guys raced in their 50s, Harry Gant.”

According to the owner of JR Motorsports, early retirement only happens there are some unique circumstances and made a point that there’s no such thing as hanging up the helmets early.

In the same episode, the former NASCAR driver elaborates on what might be the ideal age to finally retire, clarifying what he felt is right while sharing some conversations he had.

“I don’t think the average retirement now is anywhere around 43 to 47 is kind of where I feel like most guys are considering hanging it up.” Earnhardt Jr said.

In addition to that, he said, “You know, talking to some drivers that have retired, there’s some guys that wish they hadn’t. We know that Rusty Wallace feels like that he had a couple of good years left. But I’ve talked to a couple of other drivers that have retired, think they should have probably retired a couple of years sooner.”

Last but not least, Dale Jr. said, “It’s really a case of a case. If somebody retires at 38, that would be early for me.”

With this, it’s pretty much clear that retiring early should not be a case for many. This only happens if there are some unusual circumstances.
