Michael McDowell and Daniel Suarez are locked in a tight battle for the final playoff position in 16th and 17th, respectively. The two drivers are separated by just a single championship point (McDowell’s 432 to Daniel’s 431). As of now, it’s practically anyone’s guess who will eventually make it in the end. In light of this, Dale Earnhardt Jr, in his latest episode of The Dale Jr. Download, stepped in to give his take on the two drivers. Initially, it seemed he was not sure who to put in the playoffs position. But he couldn’t overlook the recent run of the Front Row Motorsports’s driver. Dale Jr had some interesting takes to back his claim.

With just 6 races to go before the playoffs, every race weekend is crucial for both drivers if they want to make it into the Round of 16 battle.

Speaking to co-host Mike, Dale Jr praised McDowell for his levelheadedness. He suggested that it’s the combination of his driving style and his experience that gives him a little bit of an edge over the Trackhouse Racing Driver. Here’s how the conversation between Mike and Dale went down.

“I believe, I mean in theory, Daniel Suarez should beat Michael McDowell,” said Dale Jr. “But I tell you, man, Michael had a pretty damn good performance this past weekend.”

“Not only did he have a pretty good performance this past weekend and finished 13th, but also, what a story,” said Mike Davis. “The fact that he’s even in this race. I mean, I am not just gonna throw the McDowell card, and say oh, he won’t make it to the end.”

“Now we’re having to pay attention to him and when we do, we see that this dude, this isn’t really flukish, he’s really overperforming,” Mike added.

“You gotta give him a lot of credit,” said Dale Jr. “I’ll simple it down as much as I can for me, If I put Michael McDowell, and Daniel Suarez on a track in a 1 on 1, I feel like Daniel beats him in most cases. The trouble is when you put another 38 or 35 cars on the racetrack, that’s when it seems like it almost levels the playing field for Michael. His style of hard-headedness, his driving style suits him, its good for him.”

“We’re always confident as a team,” said Peterson in the press conference. “I think we have some work to do this weekend at Pocono, but coming out of New Hampshire we’re still in a good position. We’ve seen Michael have good finishes at Pocono so we know we can have a good race.”

“I think we have more confidence at Pocono because of our recent runs. Looking at New Hampshire, Pocono, Richmond, and Michigan, this weekend is a race where we want to really perform well and collect as many points as possible,” the Ford driver said. “It’s also a good weekend for us with our debut for Benebone.
