Winning a championship in any elite sport requires exceptional skill and persistence. It takes years to rise to the top and immortalize oneself in the pages of history. However, not all exceptional sportspersons get to live their dream and kiss the coveted championship trophy at least once in their lifetime.

In the Cup Series as well, of over three dozen drivers who battle it out every week for nine months, only one takes home the most-coveted trophy. Several drivers have come painfully close to winning a championship, sometimes, more than once. Such wounds hurt the drivers for the rest of their lives, and who knows the pain better than Denny Hamlin—arguably the best driver to have never won the Cup.

However, how is Hamlin‘s failure to win a Cup Series title related to the Mark Zuckerberg vs Elon Musk controversy?

Denny Hamlin bemoans his fate after the announcement of a new social media platform

It’s been days since SpaceX owner Elon Musk challenged his rival, Meta owner Mark Zuckerberg, for a physical bout. It is yet to be known whether they took part in the challenge physically, but figuratively, Musk has yielded the first round, as Zuckerberg announced the launch of a new platform, Thread, to rival Musk’s Twitter.

This announcement comes days after Musk imposed viewing limits on tweets to minimize data scrapping. Nevertheless, the new application Thread is an Instagram text-based conversation, which allows users to discuss anything and share their opinions openly.

While individuals worldwide are ecstatic with the launch of the new app, there seem to be a few exceptions. Among them is the Joe Gibbs Racing driver, Denny Hamlin, as he takes the announcement with a pinch of salt. He took to Twitter to express the reasons for his displeasure.

He posted a picture that read, “Perfect. Another platform where I can read that I have no championships.” He also added the words as a caption, “Same name, same resume.”

Fans show their support for a heartbroken Hamlin

There is no denying, that very few drivers in the history of NASCAR are as successful as Denny Hamlin. He has been one of the most winningest drivers in the grid and surpassed Mark Martin’s 40 wins back in 2019. He is also the 3x Daytona 500 winner. He has been the only driver to make it to the Championship 4 three times in a row, from 2019 to 2021.

It is no surprise that the post stuck a chord among his fans, as they tried to provide assurance to the driver, as he still has a chance of winning the trophy.

Many fans wrote, “The number of championships is never proportional to the driver skill. Legends don’t always win championships.”

“No matter what, you’re gonna be a Hall of Famer.”

“Will go down as distinguished nonetheless.”

Others also commented, “You’ll get one Denny. Keep at it.”
