Denny Hamlin lands himself a championship, albeit not in racing
In his latest Instagram post, Denny Hamlin shares the news of his being crowned the champion of the brainchild of two NASCAR drivers. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Hamlin collaborated to create the Golf Guys Tour to bring together the best of both worlds. The format for the tour follows NASCAR in its points standings approach, unlike the usual case in golf.
The tour has become a lucrative option for drivers across different forms of motorsports to have a go at a new sport. In this year’s iteration of the tournament, Hamlin grabbed his third win in the tournament’s history, having won it in 2017 and 2019 as well. Sharing the achievement with the world, he posted on Instagram, “71 and 1 under par. Thanks for hardware @thegolfguystour”

Hamlin distanced himself from Augusta earlier this year
Denny Hamlin’s partnership with Michael Jordan dates back to the golf course. The 23XI owner duo found a common field of interest, and the rest is history. Golf has bridged the distance between reality and goals for the two legends from two starkly different sports. Owing to this, Hamlin joined MJ as a member of The Grove XXIII, a private club in Florida, as soon as he received the invitation.

Having experienced a more serious side of the sport than the casual sessions, he had an idea to feature in the Augusta National, one of the most prestigious golf tours in the country. However, Denny was quick to understand that taking it to the next level was a different ballgame.
“It’s going to be fun to do for the next 20 to 30 years, as long as I’m able to play. From what I hear, it’s the total opposite of Michael Jordan’s course, and I think I would take over Augusta any day,” said Hamlin, speaking on his podcast, Actions Detrimental.

“I’m not a good enough golfer to really appreciate how challenging Augusta is or whatever. I’m a 5-handicap who probably would go to Augusta and shoot 105 or 110. I don’t want to do that. I’d rather go to the Grove down in Florida and wear my T-shirt, and my hat backward, and play with 10 of my friends. Doesn’t that sound funner?”
Hamlin’s interest in going far in another sport is truly commendable. After all, it has helped him land a championship for his trophy cabinet.
