The number 3 is synonymous with the Earnhardt name. After all, the late great Dale Earnhardt won 6 of his 7 Cup Series championships in the #3 Richard Childress Racing car. That’s not all. His son, Dale Earnhardt Jr also brought pride to the #3 as he won both of his Xfinity Series titles, driving the #3 for Dale Earnhardt Inc. So when the NASCAR Hall of Famer was seen driving the #3 car in the South Carolina 400 weekend, fans were sent into a frenzy as it evoked feelings of nostalgia.

Dale Earnhardt Jr turns back time with his #3 charter

Dale Earnhardt Jr is all set to race in the 2023 edition of the South Carolina 400 this Saturday. The 49-year-old will be driving the #3 car sponsored by Bass Pro Shops for the second year in a row. He will face stiff competition in the race and one of his competitors is his former employee.

Josh Berry, who will be driving for Stewart-Haas Racing in the 2024 Cup Series, is one of the participants of the race. The former JR Motorsports driver will be running under the banner of Kevin Harvick Inc. Berry has had a good experience at the Florence Motor Speedway as he won the 2022 Icebreaker at Florence while still being a JR Motorsports driver.

Xfinity Series driver Josh Williams will also be one of the drivers, along with defending CARS Tour champion Carson Kvapil, who will be Junior’s teammate on the day. However, the spotlight will well and truly be on Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The South Carolina 400 saw a significant increase in its purse last year. Along with FloRacing, Junior had confirmed that an additional $30,000 was included in the purse, with extra funding from its sponsors. This doubled the budget that this 400-mile-long race had back in 2021.

The talk of the town, however, is Dale Earnhardt Jr running the #3 car in the race. Seeing an Earnhardt in a car with that number is nostalgic and iconic. Fans expressed these sentiments on Instagram under one of Junior’s posts of him getting out of the #3 car in Florence.

Seeing Dale at the helm of the Late Model Car, fans expressed how they were transported back to 2010. Indeed, it was in that year that Dale Earnhardt Jr drove the #3 Richard Childress Racing car for a Daytona in the Xfinity Series and emerged victorious.

“Number 3 and dale jr . Boi is it 2010? 😂,” they asked.

Others wrote about how it was a special sight to see an Earnhardt once again take a #3 car for a spin around a racetrack. “The only driver that should be allowed to drive the #3.”
