Nostalgia works in strange ways. There is something about the memories associated with certain events that transport us back to the past. Sometimes it acts as an escape route from the mundaneness of the daily drudgery. Other times, it is for the sake of reliving the good old days. And it looks like even Kyle Busch seems to yearn for those days.

This was evident in his latest interaction with the media.

Kyle Busch longs for races at the Brickyard 400

With the commencing of the Throwback weekend in Darlington from the 12th of May till the 14th of May, the media asked Busch questions along this line of reference. A reporter asked, “Is there anything from the 1990s or 2000s that you wish is still around today? From back in the day.”

To this, the Richard Childress Racing driver responded straightaway, “The Brickyard 400,” laughing.

The quick reply from the media was, “You might get that next year.”

Veteran journalist Bob Pockrass posted a clip from the interaction on Twitter with the caption, “Kyle Busch would like to see the return of the Brickyard 400 (he might get that next year if NASCAR and Indianapolis Motor Speedway opt for the oval on the 30th anniversary of the first NASCAR race at IMS).”

The two-time Cup Series champion, however, also continued to add to his list. He exclaimed, “I think the [Winston] No Bull Five thing was really really cool. That was a lot of fun and brought some attention to the sport.

“Having the orange numbers and the orange spoilers on the cars and guys going out there and racing for an extra million bucks in those races. So yeah, that was fun.

“I think the Dash-for-Cash races do a great job of that. The Triple Truck Challenge in the Truck Series does a great job of that so. We’d love to see something like that return for the Cup Series.”

“And just seeing all of the other drivers that I get to see and that I’ve grown up loving as a kid. You know, being friends with them now, being a driver myself, is really cool, like Mark Martin and Dale Jr, Rusty Wallace, and all those.”

The fans can’t help but agree with Busch’s ideas

The fans seemed to reinforce Busch’s ideas that need to be reincorporated into NASCAR.

A fan complained, “A travesty that they even took it away.”

An ecstatic fan wrote, “Yes, please! The racing was so much better.”

While a nostalgic fan wrote, “Damn, 30 years?!? I remember watching Gordon win the first one. I guess I’m an official old f***.”

Another fan pointed out, “All good points in this clip. Loved the orange decals for Winston Million. Also, the Brickyard should’ve never stopped. Crown jewel race. It ate up tires, so what, now everyone wants falloff. Indy is difficult, which made it special.”

A fan also wrote, I agree, these road course races just are not a good match for these heavy cars.
