The day at Darlington for Joe Gibbs’ drivers was a whirlwind of emotions. On one hand, Martin Truex Jr. and Christopher Bell were unfortunate victims of pit stop mishaps that ultimately cast a shadow over their performance.

On the other hand, Denny Hamlin seemed to be in a strong position as he led the race for an impressive 177 laps out of the 367-lap race. However, the tide turned when a loose wheel incident occurred, which Hamlin believed had happened during a pit stop on lap 270. This unfortunate incident led to him losing the lead, effectively shattering Joe Gibbs’ hopes at the Southern 500.

Despite the setbacks and the dark cloud of pit stop mishaps, Joe Gibbs himself made an appearance on Denny Hamlin’s show, where he shared a remarkable and uplifting story about the 42-year-old. This story managed to divert attention from the pit stop troubles and provided a glimmer of positivity amidst the challenging day at Darlington.

Denny Hamlin’s journey with Joe Gibbs Racing has been quite remarkable. He embarked on his career with the legendary team back in 2005 and has continued racing under their banner for nearly 18 years. Their collaboration has yielded an impressive tally of 50 victories with the iconic #11 car. The 2023 season also proved to be strong for them. However, amidst the success, speculation arose regarding Denny Hamlin’s contract renewal as he had not yet signed an extension for the upcoming season.

Interestingly, during the “Actions Detrimental” podcast, many were hopeful that discussions would revolve around both Denny Hamlin’s contract situation and the unfortunate pit stop mishaps faced by JGR at Darlington.
