Bubba Wallace wants to start the 2024 season with a bang. The #23 Toyota driver had a successful 2023, which saw him achieve some personal milestones, like a debut playoff appearance. Replicating that in the upcoming season would require him to turn up the heat and sharpen his focus. From what the recent events on his Twitter timeline suggest, Bubba has resorted to heavy metal music to help him.

The 23XI Racing driver has been an avid follower of heavy metal and has previously stated the same on multiple occasions. Manifesting a similar energy for 2024, Bubba Wallace has revealed his takeaways from a conversation with his wife Amanda. Adding more about it in a recent tweet, Bubba also claimed that the past few years have been bland in terms of interaction on social media, and he would not let that continue, starting with the Daytona 500.

Bubba has always been an active personality when participating in off-track events. Last year’s block party in Chicago was one of the many examples of Bubba’s energetic approach to bonding with the fans. Despite being a popular figure among the fans with tremendous support and exposure, he felt something has been missing from his life lately.

However, his fear was confirmed when his wife Amanda iterated the same, implying a return of his jolly side to the racetrack was necessary. Stating more about it, Bubba Wallace tweeted, “Wife and I were chatting the other week…she says I need to bring back the flavor on my socials..I’ve been distant for the last couple years not gonna lie.. Here we are. 1 man mosh pit on the bird back to Daytona”.

The message might be confusing for some fans. When compared to most of the Cup Series drivers, Bubba’s energy levels usually seem to be on a higher level. A fun-loving person in and out of the car, Bubba Wallace has supplied many light-hearted moments for the fans. However, from the looks of it, that might not be enough for him.

Before tweeting about the lack of flavor on his social media handles, Bubba Wallace briefly flaunted his heavy metal catalog on Twitter. Having been a fan of the genre for a long time, his affinity for it has drawn many fans toward him. Not only that, but the loud and intense music genre gets him into unparalleled focus, unlike anything else.

Different people have different ways of calming the mind. Some prefer silence to smoothen the flow of thoughts while some prefer an energetic vibe to raise their morale. Bubba Wallace falls in the later sect of people. Racing at breakneck speeds in a jam-packed arena is as intense as it gets. However, some heavy metal before the race eases it all for the 30-year-old.

“I always say the heavier the song, the louder the song, the better it makes me feel,” claimed Bubba Wallace in a previous interview. “Something about it elevates me to a better place mentally. It gets you pumped up. And when you’re pumped up, that helps everything, especially when you’re trying to get ready for a race.”  Not just that, the driver also reiterated his stance on his favorite genre by tweeting out a playlist, featuring his current favorite songs, moments before his “distant” behavior revelation.

Apart from bringing a certain mindset to the situation, heavy metal has also helped Bubba Wallace recover from a challenging phase in life. In 2019, the Alabama native had to undergo a rough period with his racing career and his relationship with Amanda Carter was also not in the best of conditions.  That’s when heavy metal brought his life back on the track.

“Amanda and I weren’t in a good spot and the racing side of things wasn’t in a good spot,” revealed the #23 driver. “And it’s like, no matter what you did, days were just kind of merging together, and the depression would last for a long time. That’s the way I took it at least. And so it made you feel like, yeah, I could do this. And you just kind of play it on repeat every day,” the 23XI driver revealed.
