Whether it’s the iconic #24 DuPont Chevrolet Impala or his cameo in Disney Pixar’s Cars 2, it’s no secret that Jeff Gordon’s been a Chevy man all his life. The Wonder Boy’s love for the American automaker led to him opening a dealership in North Carolina during the late 90s. Aside from his colorful Impala, Gordon has also owned multiple Chevrolet classics throughout the years.

While Gordon’s love for the manufacturer that helped him bag four Winston Cup titles is visible in his car collection, his history with their arch-rivals dates back a lot further when we talk about his fleet. Let’s look at some of his prized possessions and also the oldest and perhaps his favorite car out of them all. Believe us when we say that it’s not what you’d expect from the Chevy man!

No rivalry has given birth to more iconic cars than that between The Ford Motor Company and General Motors. While GM dominated the markets with the Chevrolet brand, the other giant from Michigan stayed true to its name and introduced the world to some of the most iconic models from the golden era of the Detroit Automotive industry. The Ford 3-Window Coupe is one such example, with its classic hotrod design and massive front grille.

The oldest car to grace Jeff Gordon’s collection, the Ford 3-Window Coupe, came with a V8 engine which allowed Elgin racers to reach 100mph with the car on the straights back in the day! Wanting to experience the glory days of the 30s, Gordon sidelined his love for Chevrolet in favor of the older 3-Window Coupe. It’s also notable that this car arguably gave rise to the 1940 Ford Coupe, which allowed Moonshiners to outrun the police and race themselves, ultimately giving birth to what is now known as NASCAR.

Jeff Gordon’s love for General Motors isn’t limited to Chevrolet’s, as he also owns a pristine 52’ Oldsmobile Super 88 in convertible form. With its swooping body lines and iconic bonnet, the 88 isn’t just pleasing to the eye, it also packs quite the punch!

After World War II, General Motors introduced a new and bigger variant of the Oldsmobile 98, which introduced a powerful V8 producing 160hp. But the star of the show was when GM put the new engine into the smaller 70 series chassis, which meant the car had blistering acceleration and power-to-weight performance for the time.

Chevy Corvette C7.R Edition

The last front-engine and rear-wheel drive Corvette was introduced in 2014. It came with a jaw-dropping 455-hp produced by the eight-cylinder motor called the LT1. This model of Chevy awed Jeff Gordon so much that he was aptly called ‘Jeff Gorvette’ in the Disney Pixar’s Cars franchise.

The Corvette Z06 C7.R Edition was put on auction for a noble cause. All funds from the sale of the immaculate Chevy with only 747 miles on the dash went towards the Jeff Gordon Children’s Foundation, an initiative that helps drive innovation in pediatric cancer research. The Z06 C7.R edition is touted by many to be the finest variant of the C7 Corvette one can experience, and Jeff Gordon could never miss out on an opportunity to do just that!

Jaguar XK8

Although Jeff Gordon is the definition of the American Dream, you don’t have to be British to appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into building a Jaguar. The Wonder Boy’s been seen out on errands in a beautiful British Racing Green XK8, a true automotive icon. While it’s not American, it does have a lot in common with the thing NASCAR fans love the most about the sport – the big and mighty V8.

The XK8 comes with a 4.2-litre 8-cylinder powerhouse that produces 294 horsepower and 303-foot pounds of torque. A car made in the 90s, it could keep up with most supercars of the time. After taking a look at the Oldsmobile 88 and the XK8, a pattern is emerging in the cars Gordon owned so far – iconic, eight cylinders, and a lot of fun to drive!

After the success of auctioning off his beloved C7, Gordon made strides in his charity’s efforts to fund children’s cancer research by putting his Chev Camarao ZL1 up for auction at the ‘Camaro for a Cure’ campaign. The livery on the car itself was a sight to behold, but that isn’t all. Since the car in question is a 5th-generation Chevy Camaro ZL1, it’s got plenty of power with a 6.2L V8 producing 580 horsepower and 556 foot-pounds of torque!

The way to win the car was simple: enter the raffle with a minimum cost of $100 and a chance to win Gordon’s car! With over 10,000 raffle tickets, the event was a grand success, and there have been a couple more ZL1s that Gordon has auctioned since then. The Wonder Boy also co-owns the seven-time champion’s No.48 Chevrolet Camaro, which he drove for Hendrick Motorsports in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

It’s safe to say that whilst Jeff Gordon has previously shared that he’s not too enthusiastic about owning cars off-track, his collection speaks volumes about his love for Chevrolet and more – one of the most iconic Ford models of a forgotten era! It would be best to keep your eyes peeled for the next time Gordon’s charity auctions off one of his prized possessions for a good cause.
