The Kyle Busch and Ricky Stenhouse Jr brawl was very well documented. Several camera angles and perspectives helped the fans know every detail of the fight that ensued after the All-Star race. However, not all the skirmishes and fights between the NASCAR drivers are captured on camera. There was this one case in a post-race altercation between Kyle Larson and Joey Logano during the 2017 Daytona 500 race that fans are still looking forward to understanding.

It’s fair to say Logano has pretty much had a dispute with every big driver in the Cup Series garage. In the aftermath of this weekends brawl, even Denny Hamlin recalled his past altercation with Logano. But the Penske star crossed the limit when he was involved in a war of words with Larson with Larson after the 2017 Daytona 500 race.

Katelyn wasn’t pleased with Logano’s behavior at all

Kyle Larson is one of those few drivers who like to keep their nose clean. Even if they end up in a situation where one needs to trade blows. We all known how he was heckled by Bubba Wallace and didn’t reacted aggressively. Trying to implement a similar tactic to get out of heated confrontation with Logano, a nervous Larson tried to fend his rival off with a smile. But it further riled up Logano who continued his rant further.

Sharing the details about his unknown confrontation while speaking in an interview via The Athletic, the driver of the No. 5 car said, “Obviously, he’s bigger than me, and I didn’t know if he’s gonna punch me or what. And when I get nervous, I just laugh. So I started smiling like I am right now and then he’s like, “Don’t fu**king smile at me. Don’t fu**king laugh.” And he got more mad. Finally, he left after cussing me out for a couple minutes.”

But Katelyn was fuming at Logano for his use of foul language in front of her son Owen. “And Katelyn was very mad at Joey because Owen was only (2) years old and he’s standing right next to me and (Joey was) cussing, saying all these words and stuff. She was not happy with him for a little while.” Larson further added.

Ever since that incident, Kyle Larson went on to make the switch to Hendrick Motorsports and clinched his first championship win in 2021. Not only that, but in recent years, he has established himself among the greats of the current generation. While it is easy to get over your head with a championship to show for yourself, the HMS star somehow has managed to escape the clutches of being caught up in fame and ego.

Larson credits his upbringing as the reason for his calm nature

Kyle Larson is arguably the star driver who led the way in promoting NASCAR in a good light and has always tried to remain calm on the racetrack and let his skills and talent do the talking. Although he has run into some disputes with his rivals, most of the time he’s managed to broker peace and go about focusing on his next race. Entitlement can truly damage a racer’s ability to deliver his best; perhaps Kyle Busch is the best example of that in recent times.

Therefore, it’s good to see a driver like Larson who doesn’t get ahead of himself. However, Larson’s upbringing and social circle have also influenced a lot of his character and personality. “I would have to give a lot of credit to my upbringing and my parents, for sure. And I just have a good, core group of friends. I’ve really never thought of myself as being a big deal (…) It’s not that I’ve tried to not let things get to my head, but I’m just naturally an easygoing guy,” he added.

Well, he can further cement his status as one of NASCAR’s greatest this weekend if he manages to complete “The Double.” Running 500 miles at the Indy 500 race and then returning to Charlotte and running the 600 miles for the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR event.
