Justin Allgaier’s Spotter Insinuates a Rivalry Between NASCAR and F1 Over Doing “The Dumbest S**t Ever”

In a recent episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, spotter Brett Griffin pointed out that one thing in which both NASCAR and Formula 1 are rivaling each other. The thing is of course, the recent run of poor decisions in both forms of motorsports.

“Let’s be honest, NASCAR’s control booth, race control booth and F1’s control booth are like against each other to see who can do the dumbest s**t ever,” Griffin said.

“It’s like, ‘Watch this. Hold my beer. We’re gonna do this, we’re gonna make this rule up, we’re gonna throw a caution for this, we’re gonna let this window net fall down, we’re gonna let this guy finish the race with his window net fallen down, we’re gonna let him win a million dollars,’” he continued.

“Let’s keep changing the rules, people.”

NASCAR eclipses Formula 1 in head-to-head viewership

A few weeks ago, Miami hosted its first-ever Formula 1 race, a second United States Grand Prix. This was something which many were considering a threat to other motorsports in the country, especially NASCAR.

After all, F1’s flood of popularity in the States is no secret. It’s insane the number of people that have become fans of the sport in the short period of time they have.

Having said that, the Miami GP’s viewership numbers didn’t quite live up to the expectations, and certainly not to the hype that surrounded it. The F1 race was watched by roughly 2.066 million people.

On the other hand, NASCAR’s Cup Series race at Darlington on the same day was watched by 2.614 million viewers. So while this might not be a big difference, it is a difference at the end of the day.
