Must be a great feeling to win a Cup race in NASCAR, right? Shane Van Gisbergen experienced this sense of joy at Grant Park 220. Not only did he win the race, but he also became the first driver to win his debut race since Johnny Rutherford’s victory at Daytona in 1963. With his Sunday heroics, the 3x Supercars Champion proved he has a skill that is not found in many drivers.
It’s right foot braking. Most of the drivers don’t use a clutch during the corners or braking zone except in and out of pit stops. But the New Zealander used this technique, and it proved in a massive success for him.
Many praised him over his technique, and one of them was Kenny Wallace. He further compared him with Kyle Larson as well, Let’s take a look at his reason for this.

Kenny Wallace on Shane Van Gisbergen’s Old School Method and His Reason to Compare Him With Kyle Larson
Shane Van Gisbergen’s technique was compared to an old-school method that lets you avoid “Break Hop.” Kenny Wallace elaborated on this technique in a recent YouTube video. According to Kenny, this technique proved advantageous for Van Gisbergen.
Kenny explained, “He was old schooling it because if you use the clutch then you don’t wheel hop so when you used the clutch to downshift you can break very deep without the rear tire hoppin’. It’s called ‘Break Hop.”
In the video, Kenny also discussed the affinity that Australians and New Zealanders have for Dirt Racing. Both Shane Van Gisbergen and Kyle Larson, being from that region, are enthusiasts of Dirt Racing as well.
“Kyle Larson loves him because they race Dirt, we have seen the pitchers out there, SvG running a wing Sprint car. He is the real deal he’s another Kyle Larson this SvG is, he’s run everything he’s raced it all,” Kenny told in his video.
