With the regular season in its final stages before the Playoffs, teams have hastened up the process to meet their expectations. Being the most successful team in Cup Series history, the targets Hendrick Motorsports aims for are not mere goals but also milestones. Coming into the season, the Rick Hendrick-owned side had one such achievement in mind that would make them the first team in history ever to do it.

With 298 wins to their name, they are hoping to reach the much-anticipated 300-win mark before the regular season ends. On being asked about the odds of HMS achieving the feat before the given time frame, NASCAR legends Chad Knaus and Kevin Harvick had a slight variance in their levels of optimism.

Chad Knaus and Kevin Harvick discuss HMS’s chances of achieving a historical milestone

Chad Knaus is one of the most coveted personalities in NASCAR. Former crew chief for seven-time champion Jimmie Johnson and a Hall of Fame nominee, Knaus knew his way around with such records. Currently the Vice President of Competition for the team, he believed that, although the task is quite doable, it would need a tremendous effort. Alongside that, there are the situations of Elliott and Bowman as well.

What are the chances Hendrick gets 300 wins prior to the playoffs? That means in the next six races, they have to get three wins?”

“This is tough, right? It’s really hard because just like I said I feel like that we’ve got six races that are really good for us, that we’ve got four cars but it’s against the field. So, I’m going to say 20 percent. replied Knaus.

Harvick believed that the task is quite praiseworthy. However, the probability of it happening and the window to make it happen is a mismatch. He said, I’m gonna go with 10 percent. Oh, I mean I think you guys are great all right. I’ve had a good year too and I think you guys are running well but in six races with the six different racetracks that we have, needing three wins, I think that would be awesome to do. But I think it’d be hard to make it all happen in six weeks.”

Confirming the team’s interest in cutting short their wait for 300 wins, Knaus confidently exuded, “Well, we’ll know in four. We’re going for it if we can.”

Looking at the records they have set so far in the sport. it does not seem like an impossible task either. 300 wins is a befitting achievement for a team of HMS’s stature in the sport. But that is not the only thing they are looking out for.

HMS looks to kill two birds with one stone

Having claimed five poles this season, their tally of poles won in history goes to 244. This is probably the toughest one to achieve, and a pole-winning performance in each of the last six races with this level of competition might be an unreasonable ask.

In decreasing order of difficulty, comes the record of 500 engine wins. After William Byron raced to a win in Atlanta, the number went up to 495. With five wins needed in six races, this could probably move on in the Hendrick Motorsports calendar.

Other than these, HMS have shown their influence in the industry through many initiatives. The most notable one would be their involvement in expanding the sport’s reach. Going into the 24 Hours of Le Mans and a great performance by their star-studded team is one of the things Rick Hendrick will be able to boast about.
