The dynamics of the Busch family have been exemplary. Being a 2-time Cup Series champion and former team owner, Kyle Busch‘s massive presence in NASCAR has opened up a world of possibilities for his son Brexton. Brexton has been a steadfast follower of his father’s footsteps and aspires to replicate the same, if not more.

The father-son duo’s latest racing venture is the 2024 Tulsa Shootout dirt racing series. While the prestigious tourney at the SageNet Center features drivers and cars of multiple classes, the 8-year-old has chosen to race in the Restricted A Class and Junior Sprints divisions. Kyle Busch has been a pillar of strength for Brexton and stood by him as he continues to grow. However, the 8-year-old’s mother Samantha might not be in favor of all of her son’s aspirations. And this time it’s racing in a Midget Car event.

Since making his Tulsa Shootout debut in 2021, Kyle Busch has participated in it yearly. Despite his primary interest in Cup Series and Truck Series racing, he has gradually fallen in love with dirt racing. One of the major reasons behind that is his son Brexton’s entry into racing.

As Brexton continues to improve and participate in more racing events nationwide, Busch has looked forward to being a mentor. Be it bandoleros, sprint cars or go-karts, Kyle Busch wants to be part of his son’s growth as a race car driver. The Richard Childress Racing driver had previously expressed his desire to race alongside his son for the now-sold Kyle Busch Motorsports in the Truck Series. While that dream of Kyle’s couldn’t come to fruition, he wants his son to choose his path.

Midget car racing has been an attractive option for Brexton. However, that might not be in the cards for the boy anytime soon. Revealing the hindrance to his interests in a conversation with FloRacing, he said, “Yeah, I’d probably get into Midgets. But my mom doesn’t want me to get into Midgets, so…”

Affirming his son’s opinion, Kyle Busch added, “Exactly. Mom will not like the Midget class, so we’ll give it a go one day. We will see how that goes.

Despite spending a brief period in dirt racing, Rowdy has improved by leaps and bounds. In the 2024 iteration of the event, Busch will participate in Outlaw Winged and Non-Winged sprint car races. Having won a heat before, he is raring to have a go in Oklahoma. His son, Brexton, isn’t far behind either as the youngster continues to rise up the ranks.

Over the years, the quality of upcoming drivers in the next generation has improved. While kids start racing as early as 5, the lack of exposure in the younger circuits often stagnates the talent. However, Kyle Busch has ensured that is different for Brexton.

The budding racer has already debuted at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Beginner Bandoleros division. Alongside Kevin Harvick’s son Keelan, Brexton has also raced in the Cook Out Summer Shoot-out series in Charlotte and added to his already impressive resume.

“I think for me, my favorite part is just the growth. And as he (Brexton) gets better and as he learns, he gets more confident,” said Kyle Busch. “I think it’s more fun when you’re able to go to Victory Lane with your son.”
