His less-than-optimistic findings about tire wear have sparked unease among the drivers, with concerns now reverberating across the racing fraternity.
At the Darlington press conference, Kyle Busch was questioned about Dillon’s feedback regarding the tire test. As we approach the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro, the excitement is palpable – but what does Busch make of the iconic speedway?

Talking about Dillon’s feedback, Kyle Busch replied, “Yeah, I think it’s going to be interesting, for sure. The tire falloff at that race track is by far the worst I think we’ll ever see.”
“So 50 or 60 lap runs on tires that you have to go–I mean that’s a long time anyways, but it’s not quite 100 laps like late model races or modified races that are going to run there next week.”
He added, “Still, I think you’re going to have to figure out how hard to push. If you’re a guy upfront, do you push for a little while? If you’re a guy in the back, how much do you ride? Is the field going to catch up and are you going to go a lap down? Things of that nature.”

Just around a month ago, Austin Dillon along with a few other drivers had the opportunity to test some of Goodyear’s tire compounds at the vintage track. Following their test runs, Dillon shared his findings with the press, concerning the tires’ performance and degradation.

He stressed the importance of finding the nuances therein that could potentially offer a competitive edge. However, he emphasized that the strategy for this venue was pretty straightforward – maintaining the car at the bottom of the track and taking meticulous care of the tires. Adding, “It’s challenging. It’s got a lot of character to it… It’s rough and gritty. You gotta try and take care of your tires.”
