NASCAR has touched down in Florida, specifically at the Daytona International Speedway. However, all the Cup Series cars will race on the infield road course for the very first time. Ahead of the race weekend, Kyle Busch spoke to Fox News and previewed the weekend.

He said, “I don’t know what the first couple of laps are going to be like, I’m worried more about the first couple of corners. You can do all the simulation in iRacing and everything else to prepare yourself and get ready for it, but there’s nothing that translates as closely as just getting out there and doing it in real life.”

Owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, NASCAR found itself adding the iconic track’s road course to the calendar. This was amid a massive shake-up in the schedule, due to several races facing cancellation.

Aside from the Cup drivers, the Xfinity and Truck drivers will also be present.  However Busch and other Cup drivers who race part-time in both series, are disallowed from racing. The idea is that they don’t have an unfair advantage over the regular drivers.

Kyle Busch is hoping for a decent result

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver is set to start from fourth position, putting him in a prime position. It also helps that he raced here during the Rolex 24 sports car race, finishing ninth.

Kyle Busch has a good track record at road courses, winning Watkins Glen twice, but could not replicate it at Charlotte. According to him, this is said to be a battle of bravery and the ability to master the track.

Busch currently sits ninth in the standings with four races to go and is close to a playoff berth. All this in spite of the fact that the defending champion has yet to win a race this year. Busch finished 2nd on three occasions in 2020, though he confessed that the absence of practice has hurt him. On the bright side, he is enjoying the extra time at home with his loved ones.

He concluded, “If I was winning in this way of the world today of no practice and all that stuff, I’d say it was the greatest thing ever.”
