Change of teams for a NASCAR Cup driver is like a double-edged sword. It could be a dream switch or you could find yourself in a dreadful situation. Luckily for the 2-time Cup Series champion, Kyle Busch it has been a positive switch. While the results may not reflect the entire notion of a positive run, three Cup wins for your new team counts for something.

Making the big switch from Joe Gibbs Racing to RCR last season, Kyle Busch will be looking for his 3rd Cup Series championship and first for RCR in 30 years. Yes, a team that once was the powerhouse of NASCAR Cup circuits has been unable to reach its previous glory. However, a P14 finish in the final standings does not come out as a championship contention result and this is what Kyle Busch will look to improve on in the 2024 season.

The 38-year-old has 63 Cup Series wins, 102 Xfinity Series wins and 64 Truck Series wins. So the #14 finish is not a doomsday scenario, at least not for Busch, who was in a new environment and a team during the 2023 season. Moreover, he had three Cup Series race wins in a season where he was considered to be struggling. So, moving on to 2024, he will be eager to turn the tides into his favor and contend for the championship.

Speaking to Doug Rice via GoPRN Live, Busch explained how it’s a different feeling going in the next season, he said, “I mean today obviously it’s different just because of the amount of time that I’ve been at RCR and working with Randall and working with the team. So having that chance now being able to kind of have a fresh start of a little bit of a notebook going into a season.”

“And being able to rely on some of the stuff that we’ve done that made us good or better throughout the season. We can kind of just continue to tweak on and go out there and contend with the best of them and win some more races this year.” With the intent of winning more races, it sure won’t be a surprise if we see a complete revamp of Busch in 2024 from his showings last year.

With the Cup Series championship contention in plans, Kyle Busch will also be hoping to take care of some unfinished business in winning at the iconic NASCAR event.

The only winning feather that is yet to complete Kyle’s hat is the iconic win at the Daytona 500. Even during the 2023 opener at ‘The Great American’ having led 28 laps in that race, he had to be content with a #19 finish. He was caught up in a wreck after an aggressive bump by Daniel Suarez and soon was swarmed by other cars. For a driver who has almost won it all, the Daytona 500 still eludes him.

Speaking about his missed opportunities at Daytona, Busch added, “There’s been missed opportunities for sure. One of them was when Harvick beat Mark Martin that was 2007(…) Another year I think it was 2016 when it was the Toyota Group where all of us were working together, keeping everybody at bay. It came down to the last lap of the race where Denny jumped to the outside and got in front of Harvick, I wish I would have done that. So there’s definitely two if not three chances of victory that have slipped my fingers.”
