It’s no secret just how much the NASCAR community loves a good brawl, with the sport’s drivers pulling no punches as they try to settle their on-track difference with fights in the pit lane. Out of all the brawlers we know and love today, perhaps Kyle Busch is the most iconic. After all, he isn’t just called ‘Rowdy’ for no reason. But after Busch tried to tell iconic sports analyst, Pat McAfee, about the reservations the current generation has with trading blows, the RCR star might want to revisit Ross Chastain and Nick Sanchez’s brawls from last season.

Kyle Busch calls out the next generation for being too soft despite Chastain and Sanchez’s brawls

On the latest episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Kyle Busch conversed with the veteran insider and former football punter about how the situation with NASCAR’s brawls in the new era. “Are you guys still fighting over there?”  McAfee asked Busch. Whilst the RCR driver retorted by asking ‘Who’s fighting’, McAfee had gotten word that Busch’s ‘Rowdy’ days were over. He exclaimed, “Not you anymore. You’re too damn old, that’s what they’re saying. They’re saying Kyle Busch got soft! Won’t throw hands.” 

But Busch was having none of it, chiming into state that he would fight anybody but just needed to get further up front for it to matter enough. With that said, McAfee was curious to know if brawls today were as intense as they were during the golden era, to which Busch had a rather surprising claim. While Busch revealed that the younger generation were ‘all about crashing before winning’ so the fights weren’t going anywhere, the RCR star was under the impression that the young drivers were just not that physical with their confrontations.

Looking back at last weekend when there was tension brewing between Erik Jones and Chase Briscoe, Busch shared how confrontations lately hadn’t resulted in hands being thrown. He stated, “You know, last week there were a couple of crashes, couple of guys were pissed off at each other but I think the last guy to throw a punch was me so, that hasn’t really happened lately but they probably should, things would be settled a lot quicker!” 

While it is true that the 2024 season hasn’t given us Kyle Busch levels of confrontation, it would be unfair to say Busch was the last guy to throw a punch after Ross Chastain landed a blow on Noah Gragson at Kansas Speedway last year. And that’s not all, perhaps one of the bloodiest fights took place in the Truck Series only a few months ago, as a wounded Nick Sanchez was left screaming ‘I’m gonna fu**ng kill you‘ at Matt Crafton.

With that said, Kyle Busch might want to go over both of the fights to realise that the new generation very well has that fire within him that the community loves and hates to see at the same time. Whilst it seems Ross Chastain and Nick Sanchez had already answered one side of Busch’s argument, Pat McAfee also gave Busch a hilarious solution to the helmet problem during fights.

In any sport involving high adrenaline, brawls are inevitable. But while other sports usually get right into the action, NASCAR Drivers are met with the dilemma of their helmet. After all, the prospect of two drivers trying to converse or even fight while wearing heavy helmets is hysterical. Busch reflected on the biggest issue with helmets; “If I got my helmet on, I can’t hear you. You wanna mouth off to me? I’m not gonna hear you anyway.” 

With that said, McAfee had just the plan in mind for such moments. He asked Busch to get the other driver to get the helmet off, creating just the right moment for some carnage. McAfee shared, “You tell him to, ‘here, take your helmet off, I would like to (speak) and you can’t hear me.’ That’s when you get ‘em. You do your talking with your fists.” McAfee felt this sneaky tactic would give Busch the perfect opportunity to do his ‘talking with your fists’.
