Now you’re in the stars, and six feet’s never felt so far. Here I am alone between the heavens and the embers.” As the eyes get welled up and the voice gets choked, these lines by Benson Boone perhaps encapsulate the miserable truth of life.

The world of stock car racing is yet to come to terms and still reels from the tragic passing of Sherry Pollex, a cancer advocate and an intangible part of the NASCAR world. In view of this, NASCAR made a special announcement for its audience for Sunday’s race in Texas.

NASCAR plans to pay tribute to Sherry Pollex

Sherry Pollex took a seat behind the wheels of NASCAR only once in her life but never raced against someone in any of the racing series. She lived and relived all those moments vicariously through her father and also through her former partner, Martin Truex Jr.

NASCAR is well comprehended by her presence in the garage area, supporting Martin Truex Jr. Her eminence was not restricted to just the mere tag of being a partner or the daughter of a racer but also her selfless dedication to advocating for and spreading awareness about pediatric cancer.

A warrior herself, Pollex had championed ovarian cancer and also spearheaded Catwalk for a Cause with the help of the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation. However, beyond all, it was a losing battle that the 44-year-old was fighting for as the big ‘C’ returned to haunt her, and this time the brave warrior succumbed and breathed her last on September 17.

In the wake of her death, the world of NASCAR joined to mourn the passing away of the brave soul and is set to pay her homage for her relentless work in advocating the disease and providing strength to brave hearts. NASCARonfox shared an announcement post tagging Bob Pockrass on Instagram that mentioned, “Cars will have Sherry Pollex A memorial decal this weekend at Texas Motor Speedway.

Meanwhile fans take a dig at Danica Patrick for her insensitivity

However, it was former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, known as the most successful woman in the history of American open-wheel car racing, who seemed to send ripples through the tragic news, especially after the statement released by the JGR driver.

Danica posted a story on her Instagram with the words, “I avoid negativity on social at almost all costs. Almost…But this is the most insensitive disconnected statement from a guy that I have never liked. And obviously for good reason. I don’t care what happened between them but this is as cold as it gets. A PR rep wrote this guaranteed. You’re free from this now Sherry.”

With the fans sending their condolences to the family and friends, the tribute by NASCAR could not be a befitting event, marking the rich legacy of Sherry Pollex and also bashing Patrick for her insensitive comments. NASCAR fans wrote under the post,

“L Danica Patrick.”

“I know it’s irrelevant now but could NASCAR indefinitely suspended Danica Patrick?”

“Can’t wait for that one idiot boomer to come out and say this is woke because there is pretty much one person on every post of NASCAR who comments that but anyways aside from this good that they are honoring sherry”

“Not remembering Danica Patrick.”

“So thankful NASCAR has honored her.”
