Acquiring one of the 36 charters in NASCAR has become almost essential for any full-time NASCAR team. However, it’s crucial to note that NASCAR wields the authority to revoke a charter if a team finishes in the bottom three in owner’s points for three consecutive years. To avoid such a fate, StarCom Racing made a strategic move before the 2022 season, opting to sell its charter to 23XI Racing.

Similarly, Live Fast Motorsports found themselves at the bottom of the points standings last year and again 36th this year, compelling them to actively seek a buyer for their charter. This brings us to the pressing question of who would step up to purchase their charter in 2024. Finally, the wait is over.

In a surprising turn of events, Jeff Dickerson from Spire Motorsports made it clear that they were not interested in selling their charter but rather looking to acquire more. Spire Motorsports finds itself in an intriguing situation as they steadily climb the NASCAR ladder, showing improvement compared to previous years and even venturing into the Truck Series.

Jeff Dickerson of Spire Motorsports was asked by Frontstretch about selling the charter of their team. He shockingly said, “We’re not liking to sell, We’re looking to acquire.”

The possibility of running a third car appears to be on the table, as Dickerson openly stated their intention to acquire a third charter. Moreover, they already have a driver in mind who could make use of that third charter.

In a noteworthy development, Spire Motorsports made a substantial move by acquiring the charter of Live Fast Motorsports for a reported $40 million. Jeff Gluck’s tweet read, “Spire buys Live Fast’s charter for $40 million.

This purchase comes after their earlier acquisition of the Furniture Row Racing No. 78 charter for $6 million in 2018, a deal that was considered significant at the time. Additionally, Spire Motorsports had secured a third charter, which they leased to Trackhouse Racing for the 2021 season.

The emergence of Shane Van Gisbergen’s impressive debut win for Trackhouse Racing has sparked a demand for his full-time entry with the team. However, the team’s current drivers, Ross Chastain and Daniel Suarez, have been consistently performing well, creating uncertainty about SVG’s future performance within the team.

On the other hand, Zane Smith, a hot contender for a Cup car, faces a dilemma at Front Row Motorsports, where there is no available seat as they have already signed Todd Gilliland as a teammate for Michael McDowell in 2024. This has led to speculations about Smith’s next move.

Sources suggest that Zane Smith could potentially sign with Trackhouse Racing, even though both of their seats are already occupied for 2024. Alternatively, there’s speculation that Spire Motorsports, an ally of Justin Marks, might hire Zane Smith as their third driver, with Carson Hocevar being considered as an option to replace Ty Dillon.
