Soon enough, the community began to pour in with their speculations and discuss who could it possibly be that would appear in that #88 seat. Some fans pointed out how Earnhardt Jr and Kevin Harvick’s interactions on the Dale Jr download hinted toward a possible return of the SHR legend. While others were more wishful with their thinking.

The NASCAR community enters a heated debate as they speculate about JR Motorsport’s pick

While speculations were ongoing in full swing about which possible star could feature for Jr Motorsports, fans kicked things off by making a few jokes on JR Motorsports’ announcements.

A user stated, “How funny would it be if this was just how they announced Jr’s races this year,” while another put Tony Stewart on blast, “If there’s anyone I don’t trust to meet my expectations when it comes to a ‘special announcement,’ it’s Tony Stewart. If there is anyone I do trust to meet my expectations when it comes to a ‘special announcement,’ it’s Dale Jr.”

On the other hand, Kevin Harvick’s appearances on the Dale Jr Download had certainly caused some fans to hope for the icon’s return; “Harvick running a race or two during the NBC portion?” As others reflected on Jr’s podcast, “I feel like this was teased as a possibility when Harvick was on DJD…”

But Kevin Harvick wasn’t the only popular choice. Many wanted Jeff Gordon to make an appearance, but sadly, fans had little hope; “I want it to be Gordon, but I know that ship has sailed.” Others also shared honorable mentions, “Ken Schrader or we riot.”

But perhaps the boldest speculations of them all surrounded the return of the beloved Carl Edwards, who many still believed to be the rightful champion of the 2016 season. Summing up all the Edwards fans, a user stated, “It’s Carl guys, Dale has been very firm that he believes Carl would come back someday. This is it, it’s Carl ya’ll. Manifest it!”
