In the wake of the Grosjean accident, Corey LaJoie harked back to the 2020 Daytona 500. At that time, Ryan Newman and Ryan Blaney were battling for the race lead when the former got tagged from behind. This sent the #6 driver into an uncontrollable spin into the wall.
The following impact sent his car airborne and on top of a startled Corey LaJoie. From there, the #6 car managed to get off and slide across the track on his roof. Owing to that, Newman had to be rushed to the hospital for the sake of precaution. The good news was that his injuries were not life-threatening. Unfortunately, he was still in a serious condition, so he missed the next three races in Las Vegas, California, and Phoenix.
