When it comes to celebrating victories no one does it better than Ross Chastain. With a melon in one hand and chequered in the other, the Trackhouse Racing star has posited an indispensable significance to watermelon in the tracks of NASCAR. So, it’s natural that whenever it comes to that particular fruit, fans always somehow associate it with the #1 driver. And this time, Chastain’s roots with watermelon have put him in a strange predicament after Chase Elliott’s former spotter suffered a deep cut in his pocket after a watermelon purchase.

Don’t forget to check the price tag!

What can a person fetch with $15? While the answer to that will be an unending list, spending the same amount to buy a watermelon will surely pinch one’s pocket leaving a hole. It may sound silly but this is the exact predicament Chase Elliott’s former spotter Eddie D’Hondt faced in his latest shopping spree.

According to the latest market standards, the price of a watermelon may vary between $0.44 and $0.87  per pound. But in a rather strange turn of events, D’Hondt ended up paying almost $16 dollars for the same. He took to Twitter to express his frustration after the purchase and wrote, “I’m a dummy. I just paid $15.99 for a watermelon. Never looked at the price, just threw it in the cart.”

And how can a watermelon be mentioned and Ross Chastain’s name not come up, right? Well, a fan promptly decided to take a sarcastic dig at the Trackhouse Racing driver for the seemingly overpriced fruit. Soon, the whole NASCAR fandom followed in what can be deemed as hilariously strange as it can get!

It is no news that Chastain is an eighth-generation watermelon farmer and has worked on a family-owned farm along with his brother. Moreover, he takes great pride in his farming roots and hence his unique way of celebrating his victory in NASCAR.

Nevertheless, seeing such an exorbitant price of the watermelon, the netizens tried to question Ross Chastain for the price tag. One of the fans commented, “@RossChastain what is this all about?!” On the other hand, another fan commented that Josh Berry’s spotter should have asked for Chastain’s guidance. They stated, “Chastain could of given you.”

“Should have just asked watermelon boy,” read a comment.

While others seemed to fancy how rich Chastain is after being a generational farmer and owning a watermelon farm, one of the fans questioned, “Wow… How does Ross just throw money like that on the ground?”

Seeing the high cost of the fruit and how Chastain will probably build a fortune if prices continue to soar, one fan even compared him to a billionaire. “Ross must be richer than Warren Buffet,” the tweet read.
