NASCAR has a history of cutting ties with old and historic tracks. One notable example is Road America, where Tim Flock claimed victory in 1956, and NASCAR didn’t return until 2021. This pattern of attempting to revive old race tracks extends to North Wilkesboro Speedway, which saw its last race in 1996 but was eventually brought back at NASCAR’s 75th anniversary. Now, there is another track that may be following the footsteps of the aforementioned ones.
Kentucky Speedway entered the NASCAR scene in 2001, with the Cup Series making its debut there in 2011. Kyle Busch secured a win in their first race at Quaker State 400, followed by Martin Truex Jr’s consecutive victories in 2017 and 2018. However, due to certain reasons, NASCAR chose not to continue racing at Kentucky Speedway after Cole Custer’s win in 2020.
Now, there’s good news for Kentucky fans as there’s a glimmer of hope for racing to return after a hiatus. The question that lingers is whether the Cup race will indeed make a comeback on the track.
