Joey Logano has clinched the pole position for the Pennzoil 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Team Penske driver had a best-timed lap of 29.291 in the final round. This is the third time in a row that the Ford Mustang Dark Horse has reined supreme in the qualifying rounds.

This is Logano’s second pole of the season. The first one came at the Daytona International Speedway. Hendrick Motorsports’ Kyle Larson did come close to breaking the Ford domination but had to settle for the second spot. So it will be Joey Logano and Kyle Larson on the front row for tomorrow’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The third qualifying race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway saw Chevrolet reclaim its lost spark in the qualifying stages. For the first time this season, it won’t be an all-Ford front row for tomorrow’s Pennzoil 400 Cup Series race. However, despite a good showing by Hendrick Motorsports drivers, Team Penske and Logano grabbed the pole position.

More importantly, Logano also managed to clap back at his critics, who hounded him for the use of webbed gloves at previous qualifiers. This time around, the Penske driver did not pull off any of those antics, and it looks like he just has a quicker car and skills behind the wheel compared to other drivers.

Joining Logano and Larson in the top five starting positions were, Austin Cindric in the third spot, William Byron from HMS claiming the fourth place, and the only Toyota car in the top five was Bubba Wallace in fifth. It may seem like a Chevrolet comeback, but in reality, it’s just the HMS driver pulling the weight when compared to the two manufacturers.

Chase Briscoe landed in 6th place, Martin Truex Jr was placed 7th, and Ty Gibbs secured 8th. Rounding off the top-ten drivers’ list were Chris Buescher in the 9th spot and Christopher Bell in the 10th place.

Webbed gloves or not, Logano is still the quickest of the bunch at Las Vegas

There has been a lot of commotion and talk about Joey Logano’s use of the webbed glove during the qualifying races. Recently, a NASCAR official made the glove public, which the driver used at Atlanta Motor Speedway to secure a front-row start. However, he was stripped of his position on the grid and was fined $10,000 for violating safety protocols put in place by the officials.

It was understood that the Penske driver had the same glove on at Daytona too, but after securing another pole at Las Vegas, the driver finally broke his silence on the issue. According to NASCAR reporter Jenn Fryer, when asked about the use of webbed gloves at Daytona, he replied, “No,” as in no comment, and at the same time labeled the Atlanta incident “embarrassing”.

One thing is certain: whatever advantage Logano was getting from using the controversial glove, he seems to be doing just fine even without it.
